Question about Fuel Rail
I've noticed on E-Bay that someone is selling a "high performance" fuel rail for the 914. I've heard that these don't really add any performance to the 914.
I was at the local wrecking yard recently, and I noticed that the later year VW Buses had a factory fuel rail setup. This was simply a 6" tube installed over each head that the fuel lines hooked up to. My question: why did the factory install the fuel rail setup and does it affect anything? And, would these add anything to my 914 besides a few grams of weight? Any advice from the experts would be great..............Vern |

my guess is is that it's an easy way to make connections to the fuel injectors and the in/out fuel lines.

look at it this way, a stock 914 could drive a mile or so just on the fuel in the fuel lines, if you could maintan the fuel pressure. the fuel pump can pump enough pressure and flow for 8 injectors. so do you really think that adding another 1/2 to 1 cup of gas to the lines would matter, now it might act as an accumulator for fuel pressure. so it does not drop at each injector opening, but i would bet the drop does not even effect the running, can we say 1/10 of psi at absolute worse case.
