We've found #0013 !!

Last weekend, a friend and I followed up a lead on a guy that have two 914's somewhere in a shed, one of them a 914-6. We finally found the place, at the back of a pony riding stable. Inside were two stripped bodyshells, fenders removed, rusted and looking very tired. In a room next door there were boxes, crates and bags of parts taken off the cars. I was just about ready to walk away from it all when, in a quiet moment, my friend nudged me and told me to go and look at the 914-6's chassis number. 914 04 30013
Holy smoke! that is 914-6 production car #3. The chassis numbers started with 0011 (I confirmed that with Olaf Lang at Porsche), and not with 0001 as stated in Brett Johnson's "914 restorer's guide to authenticity". The Kardex says that it was originally a Porsche-VW GmbH car, which means that it may be possible to trace the history of the 914-6 within Porsche.
Needless to say, the car was purchased (for a low sum). The seller did not know what he had there, he just wanted to get rid of everything, since he has to move out of the shed.
The easy (and cheap) part was buying the car. The not-so-easy (and not-so-cheap) part would be to restore the car to its former glory. Fortunately (or unfortunately, don't know yet) the problem will be my friend's. He spotted the chassis # and I thought it would be fair that he get to buy the car.
Another bit of Porsche history saved. Now we are looking for motor #00015 that came with the car. That might be not so easy, but hey, who knows. Maybe we get lucky again.
Regards
Stef
