Question How to remove old stickers??

The PO place a PORSCHE emblem down each side of my 914. What is the best way to remove them. I have tried the hair drier trick, but it is not working so well.

Right idea, wrong tool....the industrial heat guns are the way to go....Makita and De Walt make them.....if you weren't out on the right coast...you could use mine.....

We used to use an item from an auto parts store called "woodgrain and stripe remover". it was used to remove the fake woodgrain from station wagons. It is still available (noticed the other day)
Strong stuff, test on paint in an inconspicuos spot first.

Jim, try the window cleaner with ammonia trick. Spray the area above the corner you want to start peeling at. Lift the corner of the sticker with a razor blade. Do not cut the pant. Once you can get your fingers on it, keep pulling the sticker slowly while applying moderate amounts of window cleaner to the glue/surface. The cleaner slowly releases the glue. Once the sticker is off clean the area with gas or thinner and apply wax. Good Luck!

"Goof Off" spray or liquid form. Purchase it at Home Depot or your local hardware store. Great stuff for any surface.

You could try some Goof-Off, available at any Home Depot or hardware store.

I used it on some stubborn pinstriping and it worked just fine. Again, always test before use.

Try 3M Adhesive Remover. It is formulated to remove that nasty yellow or black weather strip adhesive. Available at auto paint supply stores. Test first, of course.

rent a heat gun at a rental yard. But first, what's wrong with the PORSCHE lettering down the side?

I ask cause I can't decide whether to keep mine on or not.

rfoulds,

To answer the question above, the PO installed the lettering too high on the doors. Also, they are not in the best of shape.

Unhappy

Most oven cleaners are highly caustic, at best they will etch your paint if not completely remove it.

the Avon product "skin so soft" is actually useful and not a paint-killer. In my experience (I used to detail cars in high school) this is a job only to be done on a warm day with a good heat gun. Otherwise, the stickers will be brittle, you will bleed from the quicks of your fingernails and hate life for two days or so.

Thanks to all that responded.

FWIW, I found that a hair drier and a razor blade work best to remove the old emblems.

Now the only concern is that the paint underneath the clear section of the emblem is somewhat purple compaired to the rest of the orginal Malaga Red paint.... In time, this should go away.
