Six digit engine code on a GA motor

So my 2L GA motor has a 6 digit engine code with a small dot stamp after the last digit. Factory replacement motor? Any ideas?

Thanks

I'm pretty sure all 914-4 engine numbers are 2 letters and 6 numbers followed by a dot. These are VW engines fully assembled in the VW plant so they follow the VW format.

And when did you get a 914?

Dude, you have to come buy one of these days, I'm out of my mind with 914 stuff. DO NOT buy anything for your 912...I have it. Started with buying a super nice 71 914...then I decided I want to build a 912 renegade and started buying 914 motor parts...then cars to get parts...slippery slope. Now I have another 914 project spun up. Sold the 951, regretting it and might try buying it back. Oh, and added a C4S to the mix. I guess I would be considered a collector at some point soon.

Those rear bumper pads I gave you work out?

Chris

That's good because I just tore my engine down for a rebuild and conversion back to stock FI. I guess I'm more comfortable with fuel injection than carburetors.

The bumper pad was a big help because the screw holes on my old ones were so rusted out the lights had nothing to screw into.

In a 1 year period I had 6 Porsches and Porsche parts cars including a red 86 951 and a tangerine 71 914. Idk how I've gotten by with just one Porsche over the last 3.5 years

The 70-71 1.7 motors start with "W". Codes used in 914 engines were:
W: 70-71 1.7
EA: 72-73 1.7
EB: 73 California-only 1.7
EC: 74-75 1.8
AN: 74-75 European-spec 1.8
GA: 73-74 2.0
GB: 73-74 European-spec 2.0
GC: 75-76 2.0

I don't believe that most of them would have a dot. There were extra marks added when a "factory VW" rebuild was done, though. A VW stamp surrounded by couple of arrows circling, I think.

I'm having a very hard time finding a case later than a "W" without the little VW dot at the end of the serial number

Ok, so the 6 digits after the GA is normal? In looking at one of the books, they must have additional 0's before the code that do not need to be accounted for. And my dot is the same as the above posted pics.

I think that is correct. Both my 1.7 and 2.0 are otherwise missing a digit.
