You may know this but some others may not. You just need an early 914 bumper. The six and early 4 use the same one. The six will always be chrome and the 4 may or may not be (most were). I know "early" includes '70-'71, not sure about '72. The early bumper has squared off corners around the plate indent, late is rounded.

914-6 Rear Bumper
Having had both, I believe that the 914-4 and 914-6 rear bumpers are different. The cutout on the 6 is wider and more squared off. Here's a shot of my 6 with a fibeglass version of the rear bumper.

The fiberglass bumper is a replica of the late 4cyl. bumper, pre '75.
Note the rounded lower corner of the license plate indention. The early bumper, used on all (4 & 6) '70 and '71 cars, is squared off and the sides of the indented area are flat, rather than contoured. I can send a pic of my '70 4cyl rear bumper direct, but don't have a program to shrink it enough to post on this site. |
