Good for you.
Repeating the same post over and over again won't change what I am doing to my car and the reason I am doing it.

AZ… glad to see you still plodding along with this project. My engine is away at the moment being rebuilt. I believe I will see it before years end. Then the fun stuff starts. Is been so long, I hope I can remember how to put everything back together. lol. In the end you will have quite a bit more power and loads more torque than me, but after driving electric cars, I decided to reduce some of my pipe dreams of a turbo and am going rotrex. Hopefully it will be easier and save me some money, headaches, and money-headaches.

I am not a documenter like you and others. Wish I was because it is so helpful to others like myself who love to do research. Good on you for that. I’m in the same boat in terms of the project being long term. Who knows what awaits down the road. Best I can do is text you with progress updates. I’ll also keep an eye on the thread.

More progress

He wanted to hang out next to me while I was working. i told him "no" and things got heated. Don't bring fangs to a long garden tool fight.

Parts are on the way and I can get this back on the road.

I ordered 14 parts. The one I need the least is holding up the other 13. :(

Loving the progress. I didn’t plan on doing all that engine dress up with mine, but your powder coating all those parts makes everything look brand new! Maybe I’ll just refrain from taking pics so nobody will see. :)

Hope to get my engine back from the builder by months end.

More engine dress up.

This is just a mock-up so i can see where I want to run my fuel lines and other hoses.
It gives a general idea of what it is going to look like when it is done.

The biggest delay right now is getting the broken steering rack bolt out of the crossmember. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/suppo...leys/shake.gif

looks like you are moving your catch can to the front this time. i think when it’s all said and done we will end up with opposite cars as far as color and themes, but your project is inspiring. maybe i’ll try and photo journal my project whenever i can get started.

also, looks like you went with the lindsey motor mounts. i almost went that route but ultimately chose factory porsche mounts.

azbanks 11-20-2023 07:18 AM

Culture, It is always good to hear from you and what you are doing with your cars. We do need more pictures of your beautiful car.

Here is some more progress on mine
I am transitioning from the old Radium Engineering Fuel Pressure Regulator and Fuel Dampers that were separate components to a combined FPR and Damper that are one single component. It is also adjustable so I can set the fuel pressue to 2.5 for now and crank it up to 3 bar when I get the turbo engine with the new engine management computer.

I plan on doing the same thing with mine along with a new fuel rail and lines...very similar to what you have done. You have inspired me to attempt to take pics and post when I start working on it, but I can assure that you won't see fancy colored anodized hardware. lol

I would like to know what you have used to get the engine and components so clean? I'm guessing some sort of cleaner and a pressure washer?

azbanks 11-20-2023 09:53 PM

This is a replacement engine I picked up. There may have been more oil and dirt on the outside than inside.
It has been pressure washed twice and I have spent a LOT of time with a wire brush. I took a wire wheel to the intake.
I hate working on dirty/oily cars.
Let me know if you want any info on the FPR/Damper, lines and fittings I'm using.

azbanks 11-21-2023 12:53 AM

Little by little it is coming together.

I made the bracket for the FPR/Damper and now that it is coming together, I realized that it need to be over 1/2 an inch to the drivers side and down a 1/2 an inch.

azbanks 11-22-2023 11:53 AM

I recreated the FPR/Damper bracket and it turned out much better.
Unfortunately, the oil catch can could not stay where I had it mounted. I'll find a new home for it.
The intake is on. I am waiting on a few more parts and I can get the fuel lines built and run.
There are a few more things to do but it will be on the road soon.

sweet.

Matt at Pelican Parts 11-24-2023 06:39 AM

Good to see this car really coming together now! You'll be on the road in no time!

azbanks 11-26-2023 03:38 AM

The top side is done. Fuel lines are built and installed, Vacuum lines are run, and a few other misc tasks and changes have been done. I am waiting on one fitting to connect the incoming fuel line to the hard line.
Two changes I made really make a big visual difference IMHO. Can you spot them?

Now to get to Radiator and hoses, steering and front brakes, fix the fuel leak by the tank, get the rear spoiler from paint and get it installed.
Then there is one more change that will make the whole car POP visually.

outside of the blue fuel rail, bolts and hoses…painting the brake booster and moving the ps reservoir?

curious, why not a new coolant tank?

azbanks 11-28-2023 08:15 PM

I didn't paint the brake booster. I guerss I am not done with the top side because I need to put the PS reservoir back and replace a few more bolts.
The two things I was thinking about were covering the red battery cable and repainting the cam gear cover. The cam gear cover was an ugly, plain grey. I found a paint that is a close match to the cam cover/engine cross member/wheels/etc powder coat.
The red battery cable just looked out of place. It was the only red in the entire engine bay.
I do need a new coolant tank. I will add it to the never ending list of parts I still need to buy.

culture 11-29-2023 07:09 PM

it’s definitely coming together nicely and it’s also much easier for me to finger point and spend your money for you! lol
