Well crap. Adjusting the torque on that thing was the biggest pain. I just about had to use dynamite to get the bolt loosened the first time. Oh well, good info to know and it shouldn't be that tight this time around.

The torque wrench I have isn't one of those clicking varieties, so maybe I'll invest in one tomorrow.

Thanks for clearing that up for me Aaron!

The clicking torque wrench is one of the best tool investments you can make, though it's a sizeable one.

It's been no trouble at all to help you out. I'm just lucky to have the information right here from having just done the whole thing recently myself. All the information I'm giving you was gathered from other Pelican members as well as a little experience. Glad that it's helpful.

Aaron

End of the story: It works!! With the help of those here on this forum, I managed to get a 100% disfunctional sunroof into 100% operation... whoo hooo. Thanks!!

As a final note, in adjustiing the torque the wrench that I had must not have been that accurate because it was still eating the gears (used the previous halfway munched gears as a testbed) so I found adjusting it by hand was more effective.

Just got back from driving through the mountains with the top out... :-)

Hmm...maybe to save buying a torque wrench that can actually measure those torques I'll just use my old semi-stripped gears as a testbed to get just the right feel & then back off just a little.

Thanks for the idea.

You bet. As one other tip, I found that the cable had backed out too far because the torque was too high. It was not noticeable though because it looked good to the eye. However, when I adjusted the torque to the right specs, the roof would lift unevenly (almost unperceptable at first) because the cable had already backed out of the passenger lifter (by 1/2 inch). The moral of the story: make sure you have the cable length set properly by having the lifters retract and extend several times before you put her back together.

Have fun!
