The $1200 944!!!

Have a look at what I snagged for 1200 bucks. The guy was moving and had to sell. It had it's share of problems, including: windsheild wipers wouldn't turn off intermitent setting, heater blower, fog lights, power windows, radio gone, leaks, melted wiring under dash and a few other minor things. I've got all of these problems solved and or fixed after about a week and a half. I've spent maybe $50 on it so far..it mainly just needed some TLC. Paint is faded pretty bad on top pretty much beyond buffing, but I've got it looking descent with many coats of carnuba wax. Check out the pics on my website...I just threw them on there for my dad to see, but please have a look :-) Just go here http://members.home.net/justaboutme/links.htm and scroll down to see them. Hope you like!

If yours is an '88, I wouldn't worry about it. I think it's a vacum canister of some sort. Again, I'm sure yours is absent because they found a better way to do it in '88.

The condition of the interior is VERY impressive. That's one hell of a snag man! Congrats. -Trevor

Sounds like you made a great deal. Just need to detail your engine, and she'll look great. I repainted my head and and intake with aluminum colored exhaust paint. I sprayed it on with an airbrush. It looks terrific!

I hate to disagree, and the interior does look great indeed, but the 3 speed auto, well, not only is it not the excellent (but always breaking) 5 speed manual, but it's a 3 SPEED AUTOMATIC!!!

I'd rather sell the thing for 4-5k (I'm sure somebody is looking for an auto-944), and buy another one, while you put the three grand into your bank account...

martyboy1...

Wow, great catch... sure looks good after the clean-up.....

Don't let the static about an auto trans bother you... some folks just have to find something to knock down...

Well, I think 1st gear is pretty much gone. If you try to take off quick, it slips and makes noise. Fortunately, I know a guy that works at AAMCO and does side work at home. He said as long as the parts haven't gone up, it'd be about $650 for a rebuild on the trans. Of course, I'm gonna take it out for him. Hope all goes well...I will know before long.

What's this about 5-speeds always breaking? I have an 88 five-speed with 88K and I hope such a problem is not right around the corner. As for the big green thing, my 88 has one of those , but it's black and smaller. It's part of the sensing device for the cabin climate control on my car, probably same on your $1200 find. The main reason to have a Porsche is that it is a chick magnet, and you can do that in an automatic. However, my advice, fix it as nice as you can, then sell it and buy a 1988 N/A, so if you have no babe in the car you can still have some fun keeping the rpms right where you want them.
