I finally got my subs into my car..... I had them in a factory box for the longest time.....just sliding around in the hatch....
I originally planned to put them in the side compartments....but checking size and ....my cell phone harness being backthere...and my emergency tire repair kit....I opted to throw it in the spare tire well.... I don't carry a spare just an emergency kit. I managed to put two 10" subs in the spare wheel compartment/ and Amplifier.....flush with the floor and the carpet goes right over them.....it fits like a glove! This provides enough bass for me....The spare wheel compartment...actually provides the cubic inches needed for proper reflective bass...(damn close anyways)...... I had phoenix gold subs....but I blew my home stereo 10" speakers so I three them into my home speakers...and bought some cheap sony ones for now.....Frankly they sound just as good as my phoenix.....so I think I will keep them in. I am running two 10 inch subs, 600 watt kenwood amp (took out of my truck), pioneer components in the rear and ......Blaupunkt 4x6 in the front. Alpine Head Unit with 60w x 4.........All panels intact! I Just thought someone out there may be interested in putting in a sound system in a 944......frankly....it is one of the toughest cars to keep stock looking with out ripping the panels to fit speakers!! Good luck in your sound system endeveours... Alex ------------------ ![]() The love of my life....... |

wow.. did you cut the metal to get that to fit? in my car, the compartment for the spare and the cargo area are two seperate locations.. a box would never have fitted that on mine..
so, how does it sound being under the carpet? not muffled at all? looks good, but sony doesnt last too long.. update to JL audio. SHAUN |

Looks good. My old setup was quite similar.

Shaun low bass waves will pass through anything. You do not have to worry about blocking the sound as long as you are running them as subs. It is the people that buy subs and run full range to them that sound funny if you cover them up. Also the speakers do not last long running full range to them since there are no voice coils.
The 8s probally sound better due to space, a bass wave takes a certain amount of feet to complete a cycle. Like a 15 takes in the neighborhood of 32 feet to complete a cycle at 16 feet it will not sound back but anything closer sucks. 10s off the glass in a 944 might be pushing the limits of the interior. |

ae1969, Did you design a box to fit in the tire well or is it a top panel to hold the subs?

I am running a low crossover....so I only want the deep bass sounds.
I don't run the subs in full range, they were not meant to do that (no voice coils). So covering with a my stock burgundy rug....works just fine. If I turn the subs up.....the car shakes....more than my bed at nights...(LOL)....I had heard that the sony's did not last to long....but I was hoping not to run them at the max ...and hopefully they will last.... I want the subs to run 140-20 hz...in an ideal world...The nice thing is that they are away from the other speakers so there is not much frequency cancellation.....but frankly interior space (in a 944) does not allow for true bass reproduction, thus you get some serious sound shaking thru the whole car....... I don't normally have my car hopping around ....from stereo......I drive a lot and I like drowning my thoughts in my music...... so I get good sound....without the whole car being ripped apart. It is actually a top plate (MDF and plywood mix).....glued, screwed and tatooed....the inside of the wheel well is going to be sprayed with sound deading material.....it is all sealead...except for the opening where you can see the amplifier poking thru...... There is no true box, or any cutting of metal to get that into place..... ALex ------------------ ![]() The love of my life....... |
