I had my A/C converted to R134 this year cost me.....250 canadian (~170 U.S) including the recharge and everything....its not worth hunting for R12......
Take it to any A/C shop (don't bother with big names or dealers)......the little guys don't care if you drive a porsche or a pinto....they just want the business.... Its quick and painless.....and cooooooooooooooollllllllllllll !!!! I forgot how nice A/C feels on a hot day. Well worth the bucks..... Alex ------------------ ![]() The love of my life....... |

Low pressure port - near the driver's side shock tower - is where you charge it. One is high press, one is low pressure. Obviously, charge the low pressure side. It is the one that gets cold. Charge with vapor, not liquid.

I checked the pressure on my low and high side and both read NOTHING. What would be the reccomended action to take. Should I add 33.5 oz of r 12 as per the sticker inside the engine bay and then try to determine leaks or is possible to determine leaks first without charging the system. Also acsource reccomended autofrost since it was cheaper and oil is compatable and will mix ok.

If you add 33oz of R12 that will be an expensive leak check! Use on can of 134 and some dye marker that will tell you right away. Then evac the 134 and dye marker, fix the leak then charge with the R12 or Autofrost.

hey, I did mine the other day. Your low end is on the compressor, which is by the altenator under the drivers side of the car. The high end is near the resivior with the window. Anyway. If you have a vacume, the cheapest way is to hook it to the high end and create a vacume in the system. Then shut the pump off and see if your pressure guage will keep pressure for a 10 minutes or longer. If the dial is moving with everything off, you have a leak. If there is not a leak and you decide to fill it yourself, just buy the new 134 and fill at the low end. The problem doing this, Porsche likes to may special problems so they can get paid to use special tools. The alternator is too close to fit a normal low end adapter on. If you unscrew that bar the is from the center of the under carriage to the compressor, it will move the compressor valve out of the way enough to fit it on. However, you will have to tighten it back up to get the compressor belt going, to suck to new freon in. Hope this helps!

Well, I could care less for the EPA. I majored in chemistry and will be a doc in 2 years and 3 weeks. They miss the point. They should not be so concerned about refringerant chlorofluorocarbons destroying a few O3 molecules, when there are billions of car engines runnig per day. Even if the hole in the atmoshpere could concretely be proven, they would still have a hell of a time trying to prove it is from exhast, let alone the minute amounts of CFCs in the air. Atmospheric an temperature shift has been recorded for many years. I think the EPA is about as effective as that supporter they had who lived in a tree for 4 years so it could not be cut down. What is worst? Cutting one damn tree, or speading diseases in the **** that lady took down the tree everyday? Its a total dumb ass thing ;-)
