splashguards

Hi people,
Today I was changing my oil,and even with that simple thing,i read the manual...so i was prepared to remove the splasguard...
I jacked up the car,and then looked at the bottom of the engine,and...surprise!No splashguard at all!

I didnīt looked at the bottom till now,all stuff till now was done at porsche,so...iīm not even sure if I had the splashguards...I think i had it,but cannot be 100% sure...

My question is:is there any problem driving without this?I drive very little with rain,if it is the worst problem. Are they expensive?

I didn't have the guard on my first car, but i have it on the second and have tried running w/ out it, when i use it the engine cools better and I feel safer when hitting a rock or something on the interstate, i would say look for one, although its not a necessity

I had it on my car but took it off for doing some work and haven't put it on since. doesn't appear to be making any difference in engine cooling or aerodynamics at speed

I have a warning about the splash guard. It is the most useless $200 piece of plastic on the planet. I was driving around in some 2-3inch snow last spring, and my splash guard broke, snapped in the middle. The rear half became a freakin snow plow. By the time I could stop the car, I popped the hood and there was nothing but white, I couldn't even see my engine, shut it down, sat in the car and wondered about the damage it did...
The next day I removed the rear half, so I still have 1/2 of a splash guard, and I have noticed absolutely no difference between a full guard, no guard (ran it for a little while) and 1/2 guard. I think it is just there to catch the oil before it hits the driveway. =)

Zero: LMAO!!

I had a similar incident in my Jimmy when I got stuck driving down the (dirt and gravel) alley behind my house. there were about two feet of snow and the snow in the center of the alley (between the ruts that the tires had to ride in - the alley was narrow with fences on either side) started to gather up and compress, and high-center my car on the engine skid-plate! talk about making 4WD totally useless! the snow didn't get into the engine compartment of course (as my skidplate did not break like your splash guard) but it still took me about 20 minutes to dig out all the snow under the car to get going again

I hesitate to remove much of anything that when into the factory design unless I am certain of why it was put there.

I assume the splashguard it a "what if" peice.

I don't like the idea of anything having easy access to my belts, fans, etc.

BTW - us earlies have the metal pan...much nicer.

I don't need to remove the belly plate to change my oil. Does the 951 have a bigger or second plate that covers the oil drain plug?
