re: charcoal canister

per my previous post, which has had no activity recently...

i found that my charcoal canister is simply missing. it appears that all the hoses are there. i think this explains the strong gas smell when i fill the gas tank more than half full/corner hard.

can i plug the hose? is there another way to eliminate the need for a charcoal canister?

The canister is an emissions control device. it can be eliminated. It is used to capture fuel vapor from the tank and store it to be burned in the engine. Yes you can remove it. it may be an inspection issue for your states emissions testing if there is a visual inspection.

Here is what I did, throw it all in the rubbish bin plug the J-pipe and put a filter on the hose that I cut near the fuel tank. Zero fuel smell. Not sure how different it is on the N/A, its been ages since I owned one.

I have a tendency to turn my Charcoal canisters into catch-cans...but that isn't an option for you with it missing and all...

You can plug the line but be EXTRA certain you have a vented gas cap and that it is working propperly.
