Question Need to get 944 running for 2007, good mech. in S. Cal.?

My 1984 944 has developed a water leak and thus over heating, also time to do timeing belt etc.

I have given myself an ultimatum to get her back on the road for 2007 however with property taxes/auto insurance and Christmas all happening in December fixing the car will have to wait for January.

Coldbass who used to post here and have 944 gave me the name of a private shop in Southgate that works on 944's so that is probably were it is headed.

Unless someone else in the area has a better idea, I do have a large garage with a concrete slab floor if anyone knows of a mechanic that does house calls.

TIA

Scott

You provide beer and pizza and just say the word. I'd sure be willing to help turn a few wrenches with you and I'm sure a lot of the other SoCal guys would too. . .

I'm one of them!

Even tho I have the S2 sitting in the garage requesting my attention for projects I have started, I could put them off a little longer.

I took a couple of days off and haven't been back to the BBS so I am giving this thread a quick bump.

I'm intrigued by the idea of doing it myself (with some help from you guys).

It's just that whenever I work on a car it seems there are lots of trips to the parts store for things I didn't plan for or stuff I broke taking things apart.

Target date would be in January after the holiday madness is over.

I've got a pretty good assortment of tools (including several of the 944-specific "special" tools). Parts just depends on what ur doin'.

It still stuns me that people actually pay mechanics to work on 944s. I simply don't see how it could EVER be affordable that way - you almost have to do your own work by default as a condition of ownership. Either that or you got money trees growin'.

I can offer some help on the weekends in January. I might be getting a week off after x-mas so I'll have some time to attend to my S2 projects then.

PM me and let me know better time frame Scott. I have a few of the 'special tools' but not them all and craftsman sets that like to go with me everywhere.

like Jeff said, you gotta do the work on these cars yourself as shops charge waaay too much.

Have Tools, will travel

I have a cricket belt tensioner, the engine sections of the manual, the funny wrenches 2 do the timing chain, and an assortment of hand tools. I usualy limit the beers until after work. I may even be able to drive my porsche over there to show it off. I'll bring the anchovies. Jan looks clear so far.. 10:20=Atlantic off of 405

If you're nice and provide good beer I might even bring "The Tool" (replete with velvet-lined mahogany box I made for it).
