Question Someplace that checks 968 Alternators

Hi,

I pulled my alternator and tried to get it checked at the local Kragens. They couldn't do it.

Anyone out there in the Pasadena CA area know where to get a 968 Alternator checked around here?

Thanks

i'm surprised they couldn't check it.
i think you might've run into someone who didn't know what they're doing.

many auto parts stores have universal type stands that accomadate most alternator/starters.

call another store and see if if you get the same response.

Okay so I found a rebuild shop on Foothill in East Pasadena called One Stop Auto Electric. They tested the alternator and it was cooked. They are doing a rebuild on my old one and it will be ready by 4:00 today. The rebuild is backed up for a year and cost 160.

It's just a standard Bosch alternator. The same unit was used on Audis and Volkswagons. I had mine rebuilt a year ago for $70--but I did supply the voltage regulator.

Yep, I told the shop mine was from an old VW.

(Sometimes that even gets you sympathy.)

Can anyone tell me which way to re-wire the starter on a 968? Does the largest cable attached to the upper or lower of the two primary connections on the solenoid?

When I did it, I recall that the cables on the back of the alternator had either a large hole and a small hole, there was a corresponding large post and small post on the back of the alternator. (I believe the late 944 and 968 used the same alternator, correct?)

Hi
Yes I see that there is only one way to wire the alternator, my question was about the Starter on the 968. I just need a double chek on where the two larger cables go on it.

Thanks
