i dont think the earlies had this feature - there's no place for it, really...

I'm very interested to see what this wire is for, given that all the other light wires were the same colour, but not black/green

Our 1984 has the light. I changed out the tach with one withiout the light and the temp guage pegged at full hot and there is no way to bypass the circuit.

Currently looking for a tach with the upshift light!

I looked at the schematics for an '83 and all I could find was a black/yellow wire to the instrument cluster. That is the fuel injector pulsewidth signal the circuitry uses (among other things) to calculate when the shift light is on or off. The MPG meter circuitry uses this signal also. I don't believe either will work if this wire is disconnected.

...then again, it could be the wire for the explosive bolts...

Umm.. i think the early models had the light.. the late ones.. do not... but i could be wrong this info is just from my experience in test driving them... I took a few 83 and 84's out and they had the shift light... somewhere around 3k or so... the 86 and 87 i tried out and both my 87's do not have it..

a fuel MPG gague would be handy tho.. is there such a beast in these.. my beemer had one.
