dual carberator conversion 2.5 NA ?
I recently saw a 944 2.5 NA with dual webber side draft carberators. Has anyone performed this conversion, or direct me to someone who has some knowledge in this matter. It's got to be cheaper than the V8 conversion and a lot less B.S.

It certainly could work quite well if implemented and tuned correctly. It would be kind of like ITB's, with the relatively easy intake tuning possibilities that go along with that type of setup, and without all the hassle of a custom and expensive engine management system. It would just need a little more tinkering when the weather changes and stuff like that. Combine that with a high flow cam and exhaust, and it could be a pretty sick setup, especially if it was a track car.

carbs
I'm a little bored with the stock performance and can't afford a 911 . I sold an older vette with a 400 hp motor. Lets just say I miss the power. The 944 out handles that car hands down, but I would like some more power. Are there any websites that have info on the carberator conversion. That would probaly be the most economical way to go.

Since you have to make significant engine mods for the extra power and you already have all of the FI stuff, it would be much cheaper to do your mods, buy a megasquirt computer and tune away. Assuming this is a street car the ITB setup is overkill. Any HP gains will be at the expense of driveability anyway.
Sorry to be a killjoy, no replacement for displacement.

why reinvent the wheel.
fi made for better starting, near elimination of hot start issues of fuel vaporizing after stopping for the 5 min post office/store run and ez to modify for higher hp gains. i agree, 200hp with just the webbers is a joke.

bike carbs conversion
Many people replaced 80's fuel injection on motors from Peugeot, Lotus,Ford, Vauxhall etc,with twin Weber DCOE'S in the 90's for racing use; then progressed to bike carbs(BOGG BROTHERS in North Yorkshire, England, will probably still do this for you including handmade inlet manifold),but now the Megasquirt has arrived for the Noughties..

Yeah, some Keihin flat slide race carbs from a motorcycle would be awesome. The advantage of carbs would be that it's relatively a piece of cake to change fuel delivery to accomodate mods. With the stock FI, forget it...Completely redoing the engine management...expen$ive and complicated. Stock FI's good when it works, but it's so darn hard to change stuff if you want to. You either trust someone else's idea of what a good tune is and pay a couple hundred $ for their chip, or you get software and all the stuff, and learn how to tune custom chi[ps. Besides, there are many of us that just enjoy the idea of custom work, even if it's not "worth it". ANYBODY can go on ebay and find a turbo 944. It's not just about fast. Cool engineering projects FTW!
I like the idea of something you can't buy off the shelf that makes people just go "WOW!" even if it only gains 20 hp. Custom FI would be awesome, and so would a rack of carbs. To each his own...but people have been driving and racing on carbs for decades past and they do work.
