Question 944 vs. ???

I'm in a "my dad can kick your dad's ass" kind of a mood and wondered what the opinon is about the handling advantage that the 944 has over other cars. Obviously there are ALOT of cars out there that would work the p-car in a straight, but which of those cars would be lost if we threw some twisties in the mix?

The Scenario would be something like...

"you have a 'buddy' that's driving a '???' and you're both considered to be *okay* drivers that are racing through a twisty canyon."

*okay* meaning able to understand what the hell an apex is and how to use it

What's the car? and how close would it be?...hopefully we'll get some opinion bashing out of this

oh! and it would probably help if you said you're in an N/A or a 951...Obviously the 951 can take on bigger game, but it would be nice to see the opinions on what the N/A could go up against too.

Looking forward to some good situations!

I wonder how a 1series would do against a 944.

obviously there's gonna be contenders like the Miata's, 240SX's, FC and FD RX7's, MR2 Spyders (man I love that car).

There is a turbo civic around where i live that can take me in a straight line. I see him alot cause he works in the same area i do, but whenever we hit a certain road that is 45mph and fairly curvy i can usually lose him right around 50 mph. I have done that road at 60 in my NA and felt like it was about as fast as I wanted to go without getting crazy on public roads
Maybe ten seconds after i come out of the last curve onto the straighter roads he does the ricer flyby that sounds kinda like ***ppffffffffffffffffftttttttt*** lol.
not really a scenario, but something I have encountered

The "winner" of the twisty canyon scenario is typically determined by about 30% skill, 20% car, and 50% taking stupid risks. A good driver and car can easily run at the front of the pack of these so-called "cruises" while driving at his own comfort and safety level, but a no talent assclown can still go flying by everyone just because he's willing to take stupid risks and try to drive at 11/10ths on the street. It's not the kind of "race" you want to be in if you actually have some skill and brains, save it for a real race track where it will be comically easy to blow away the street racer types.

All in all, I've found my Miata to be very closely matched to my 944. The Miata likes being tossed around the really tight turns more than the 944 does, but the 944 favors the higher speed, grippier turns and it can pull itself out of a low-speed slump better.

Last August, I had planned on taking both cars to Summit Point to get some good back-to-back comparisons between the two. Unfortunately, it didn't happen. As I inspected the 944 I realized it had a problem so I left it at home.

Bingo!!! Back in the day when I used to be in the novice classes in DE's with my 84 944 (the 944 was my daily driver at the time) I used to own C5's, M3, RX-7s and the like. My friend would also take his BMW E30 325 to the same DE's where I would wear him out too. But at home he would always try to race me and would almost always win, due to the 50% listed above. To this day he still argues with me who the faster driver was back then. I know the real answer though.
