924 alternator not charging
I was reading the ( '83 won't start ) post, and wondering if my ignition switch would cause my alternator not to charge?
It's a track car, so it does not get regular runs outside of 30 minutes sessions. A while back my battery dash light flickered on. My volt guage that said it was returning only 12 volts. hmm.. tested alternator - it's good. Checked and cleaned all grounds - solid. now dash light is solidly on, and volts are about 10.5 - and drops as the battery goes dead. Everything works and Car starts when battery has good charge. Wondering if a simple ignition switch change would fix? thanks... |

More likely wiring to the alt.

The ignition switch pin 15 supplies 12 vdc to one connection of the Alternator lamp, the other connection of the alternator lamp is connected to the +D terminal of the alternator (the small wire on the Alternator) this is the field excitation voltage. This wire could be bad.
