I am tackling mine this weekend. I live in Florida, so yeah, it's totally worth it!
Mine just seems to be low on charge, though. |

It always comes down to driving time.
You will have more enjoyable days driving the car when the ac works. |

In Los Angeles? Heck yeah.
Had a Lotus Esprit Series 1, black on black, awhile ago and it had a decent fan but no A/C. This time around in my 90 S2, no way without one.

Mine doesn't work, but I haven't had a need to look into it......yet. Ive been preferring to just remove the sunroof. But then again, Im about to have my first summer with the car being drivable, so maybe I'll change my mind this summer

I removed mine. Did the delete, and it cleaned things up a fair bit. It wasn't operational, and I did not want to waste my time figuring it out. Where I live, the highest it ever really gets is 88, and I think the record high, 5 years ago was 100. If I lived in a different climate, I would have kept it.

Mine works and does a nice job considering the Phoenix heat.

It's out of my track cars and working on my street cars. I live in FL so I would get little use of a street car without AC. Cool suits in the track cars really help me get some year round track time.
Basically fix it if you need to use your car on hot days otherwise it'gets really uncomfortable. |

In an early model 944, even when working properly, it *barely* keeps up with the 105F temps out here in summer. Late model '44, keeps up just fine. For an early car, might be better to remove entirely, be a 'lil more sporty, for a late car, go for it, be comfortable.
Just beware - when one system has failed, the rest may shortly follow after, so don't expect cheap/easy.

Mine works...use it rarely though, I like the drive without it, but on those 85+ days, it is nice to have the option

Mine works pretty decently after 5 minutes of being run, but does not provide cool air instantly. I think it needs a can of refridgerant to get it back up to snuff

Mine works well in my early 944.
Might need a little more charge though...I installed a Pelican rebuilt compressor recently. makes the car much nicer to drive. |

I'm in Florida where it's 92 degrees every day during the summer. A year ago when my A/C started to falter I went to a local air conditioning shop and they converted it over to R134. It has worked flawlessly since. An operational note: Because the system can only recover a certain ratio of outside temp to inside cool, it's recommended that when you feel the inside temp getting a little cooler, go to the recirculating mode on your A/C controller. That way, the inlet temp to outlet temp baseline is lowered and the car gets cooler. It also helps prevent the condenser from icing up. I have a dark color car which makes it a bit harder for the A/C to overcome but it does work using this method.

Had to replace the condenser when i bought the car in '04. Still had a 30# jug of R-12. Works great!

I have an '86 NA as well. Mine works, but it's very weak. It also lowers the idle rpm about 200, not sure if that's normal or a symptom of being low on Freon or something else.

Mine worked fine until I replaced the original 30 tear old compressor (which leaked oil all over the place) just the other day. I had the local AC shop evac/fill; they said it blew ice cold. I picked it up later that day and absolutely nothing. It's this weekend's project... Hopefully something simple.

Yep, works better than nearly all cars on the road today. R134. Black, no tint and the 100's are coming.

'85 944 here. Had a Pelican rebuilt compressor installed along with the a/c switch. Had to jump the switch to get it to run to charge it. Would not kick on as it should. Back in the shop...can't do much anymore myself...health matters/copd hence I do need AC!
