944 body work estimate?
porche 944 | classic cars | Oakville / Halton Region | Kijiji
Chance to grab this 944 for 1500(lets be honest he'd probably take 1200 or less). What do you think the bodywork would cost? Anything else I should be inquiring into? Looking at getting my first car... Thanks for your help in advance. This is also in Canadian funds...is this too much of a project? |

I don't know what the $ is worth in Canada, but that looks a little rough for 1500 USD. Ask if they know how many miles ago the timing belt was replaced.

$1500 CAD is $1177 USD, and $1200 CAD is $942 USD.
I would guess at least several hundred for the bodywork, not counting paint. With a salvage title and everything...eh, I'd probably offer half of what they're asking. I recently paid $600 USD for an auto 1983 with 77k miles, clear title, good running engine, and failing transmission.

Personally, I would run from the car, salvage title and it looks to be beaten up quite a bit. Pass, or we will hear from you in 1 month stating the car doesn't run/overheats/ belts broke/DME issues.
You can barely buy a used 2000 civic with 150,000 miles on it for $600, remember one thing, there is no such thing as a cheap porsche. If you decide to purchase it, just remember that the cost of bodywork, belts, water pump, and all of the other gotcha's the car going to have will far outweight the retail value of it......run away from this 944 with a ------->>>>>>>SALVAGE TITLE<<<<<<<<----------------. Plenty of nicer 944's out there, just save and get a nice one if you really want a 944 as a first car.

That car would be good for parts, a salvage title remains with the car for the rets of it's life, and many insurance companies won't insure it again.

I would drive it as-is for that price.. I mean, its a unibody chassis that's galvanized.. Bodywork usually leads to rust on these things. Get it, give it absolute hell and throw it in the gutter if it explodes

By the way, I think the fact that it already has rust is pretty suspicious.. It might not be this cars first accident.
It would be smart to ask about the timing belt and balance shaft belt.. It's the cars only scary part if you ask me.

I think it is a parts car. The rear and rear quater need work, allot of work. It's worth more in parts. This 84 is a heavly optioned car: rear wiper and headlight washers both options in 84.

Ive buy and have built a few 944s . The first problem with the car is it a salvage title , also the repair ( cutting and re welding ) considering what these cars go for it would be a bad investment your better off buying a roller with a bad engine than to clip that car? But if you can get it cheap enough it would be a good parts car. Since it said to be running and use the part to put into a nice chassis . and then sell what ever you have left
