951 Engine Removal (Hoist Points)

Pulling the engine out. There is a hoist loop at the back of the engine so that's good. Where/how do you get the front hoist point?

TIA

Michael

There is a hoop to the driver side front of the engine just look on top of the alternator

from what I have heard, it is easier to drop engine rather than try to get it out from above.

just rumor as I have not pulled a 944 engine yet.

now for 911s...

forgot to add. if I recall there is also a loop at the rear of the head too.

and if you drop your motor, may want to consider having Lindsey Racing section the cross member to make it easy to remove oil pan and change bearings in the future. and also have the exhaust down pipe sectioned too. that saved me a lot of grief when replacing my clutch.

lift ring hiding behind that black connector at the back of the head.

Thx for help. Not sure if I have enough clearance to take it out from the bottom but that is an idea. The alternator is already off the engine and there is no hoop in the area of where the alternator used to be. Found the loop in back, that one was easy.

Out the bottom is much easier and a bit safer i think. You have to get the engine at a really sketchy angle to go out the top in order to clear the hood latch. You can take the radiator and its lower support out so you dont need to lift the front of the car so much. The engine fits inbetween the radiator frame and can be rolled right out on a dolly.
