Question Broken timing belt job started

Started towards removing the head on my 1987 944S after the timing belt lost 13 teeth at idle and the engine quit. I undid the bolts at the base of the header (exhaust mainfold) where it attached to the first section of tailpipe - a tip on Clark's Garage (http://www.clarks-garage.com/) said it was possible to remove the head with the header attached and it would save a couple hours work - what do you all think?

Anyways, took off the injector rail and the intake manifold. Got a look inside the head from the intake side. I can't see any bent intake valves, they "look" straight but I realilze they may still be dinged. Question # 2: All the intake valves were up (closed) except for the second cylinder from the front. The intake valves were down but did not appear to be touching the piston. I could see the exhuast valves and they did not appear to be touching the piston either. I'm still going to pull the head, however, I'm wondering if this "means" anything (i.e. - the position of the valves).

Also, suggestions on replacing the radiator hoses and other components while I'm in here? The car has low mileage - 33,000.

Thanks!
Eric

You are not going to reliably be able to determine anything until the head is removed.

On an S, the valves can appear ok from the back side, but be obviously bent when you look at the valve face.

Valve on #2 was on the intake stroke when the engine stopped.

At this age, the hoses could probably stand a change.
