Dont be too confident!!!!
Hey guys, yesterday, i came very very close to saying goodbye to my 944 for good! I was coming home from an early morning hocky practice at 6 in the morning, kinda chilly, tires hard, anyways i came off of the offramp at about 85, probably a little faster than i have taken that same offramp before, except my tires are worse now, and they were cold and hard.....I instantly just spun out!!! Scared the living **** out of me, thought i was going to roll, did 1 3/4 spins! Took out a small side marker pole! LOL. There was so much force, my front tire wall folded under, i scratched the endging of my rim to hell and jammed dirt between my rim and tire, which resulted in a flat about 1 hour later. I slid halfway off the road to the right which was a pretty steep dropoff, if i would have gone a few more feet, i would have rolled for sure, good thing no other cars were around since it was early in the morning. All i know is not to think the so called "awesome" handling car is so great after all!!! Im gunna slow it down a little more from now on!

I got that beat. I hit some diesel at about 65 in the wet on my right side on a slightly downhill stretch of a three lane motorway with a very slight curve. I span it 1 1/4 turns right in the middle of reasonably heavy traffic, missed absolutely everything (two cars either side of me) and ended up slewing backwards up a steep embankment.
We're sitting there looking down on the traffic a good ten feet below me, horns blaring all over the shop and people waving and cheering at the twat in the flash car and my gorlfriend look across at me and matter of factly says: "Shouldn't you put your hazards on so that people will notice you?" I couldn't pry my hands off that steering wheel for a good ten minutes! Worst I suffered was a minor dent in the driver's sill - I lost my dignity years ago.

I have to side with Overkill on this one. It's all in how you handle the corner, not the machine.
And since Zoltan has not chimed in yet, I will tell you to get out the track and really learn how to handle the 944. The Colorado PCA instructors will teach you things you never could imagine your 944 could do.

It was alot wider than most offramps and no im not some fancy ass professional driver using terms like apex and all of that, i just drive, and have fun! Dont need to be technical about it, fly into it fast or its not fun.
Hey scott, I didnt know there was a PCA club around here, is it in denver? Id really like to get some good skills doing something like this. Is this pretty pricey? I also heard there is a track somewhere in longmont or denver that will let you drive on for a few hours for like 30 bucks, i wanna go out there and mess around. Thanks John |

I agree on all of the above stuff. Know your car and it's limitations. Especially in different weather conditions. I once had a nasty incident with my 951 as well. Kinda moist weather, not raining, doing a nice 65mph in a steady, very long 270 degrees corner on a highway juntion. At the 'apex' if there was any in that huge turn, i applied some power and the rear wheels started sliding and kept on doing that quite a time, but i only had to steer into it and everything came to nice straightforward ride again. Though, doing a powerslide at 65mph with not too much 951-experience was something that really got me thinking.
a) What a great handling car b) Lucky with them nice Dunlop 255 3000Sports on the rear that kept me going in a nice slide and eventually in a straight line c) How stupid are you to do that corner at 65 mph when 40 is advised, especially when it's moist. Slap in the face is what i deserved and got

First you join the national:
www.pca.org Then you join the local: http://vista.pca.org/rmr/ Then you get out on the track.

Ditto what Scott said about joining the Rocky Mountain Region of the PCA. They are a very active group of People, With excellent instructors. As to the excellent handling qualities of the 944, it can't make up for your poor judgement. Driving a Porsche does not automatically make you a good driver. Drive fast on the track under controlled conditions, never on the street.
