Replacing the door light switch???

How does one access the door light switch that screws off of the door jam, but has to be plugged into the harness? is there an easy way of getting access to the wire and where it gets plugged in??

Thanks for any help. This little switch is stopping the lights from coming on when I get into the car.

Are you sure you don't have the lights set to OFF, aka don't drain my battery mode?

Switch has three positions, on, off, and door controlled.

I don't recall a plug for the door pin switch, mine I think was a spliced in replacement among the mass of wires going to the door down in the foot well.

no easy access---most everything is behind the door panel and arm rest.

remove them and you've got access to most anything that's giving you trouble in the door department--not hard to do.

The wire is a brown wire with a white tracer. If you look under the corner of the dash where it
meets the right or left side there is a single wire separate front the main door harness- connector. That wire goes thought the padding on the side foorwall area and to the door pin switch. Most of the time you can just unscrew the switch fron the pillare and pill it through slightly but they fo not give you alot of Wire !!

To access the wire you need to remove the dead pedal from the left side, the under dash tray for the side you are working on ( makes it alot easier ). Peel the carpet back and then gently remove the body padding. ( same for right side.)

Is the wire missing? did you take the switch out? The trick here is don't break the wire off... when you remove these remember the switch is very basic - helps to have a replacement handy. BTW always replace these - don't bother trying to clean them - they always fail again quickly - they are cheap and esily available - order 4 and be ready for the next time.

To remove safely: hold the plunger pin steady pushed in a little with a pair of pliers then use a wrench to loosen the nut part then when finger loose spin it out while keeping the pin still. This avoids twisting the wire off the pin... Then remove through the hole very carefully - Think about it...

The wires usually either get twisted off, pulled off the pin on removal or dissapear down the hole after removal - have a strip of masking tape ready to secure it.

BTW... of course nobody admits to any of these - "the PO did it"
