Need help on this. I just got my Fuel Distributor back from being rebuilt. Now I can't even start it without putting fuel down it's throat, and even then it's a struggle to keep it running.

The FD worked fine before I shipped it out except it had a slow throttle up hesitation issue. I just put the FD back on and didn't do any adjustments on the A/F or Idle Screw. Re -builder told me he did a bench test and all checked out. I got this answer the day he shipped it but haven't emailed him yet about this issue after the re-install.

Any thoughts on the video?

Hey Leo,
I feel for you and can relate. Maybe it was adjusted (A/F) to compensate for the elderly FD and now the FD is back in spec (hopefully) and the A/F needs to be matched to the new FD. I can't get mine to run right so no reason to listen to anything I say. I bet you'll have it fixed soon because you are such a smart guy. Wish me luck, I am leaving now to drive the car 2 and 1/2 hrs away to SITM. The wife and kids are going to follow me in another vehicle in case my shark blows up, wheels fall off, steering wheel comes off or locks up, etc,etc,etc.... We had fun thinking of all the dangerous things that could happen with the car if I had the wife and kids loaded up in it for a road trip. It still bogs out bad when I give it more than half pedal but I can cruise along fine but can't use WOT.

Here is some replies I got from the Rebuilder.

Quote:
Hi
First you need to bleed the fuel line and return line on the right side of the dist.(driver side)than banjo bolts on top of the FD.,Than at the injecters. All in these order.WE tested the FD before shippment and it check out great. If you need more help call xxxxxx Charles
Quote:
Hi
I would start the bleeding over and don't forget the WUR too. After this play with the AF.All we change was the orings and cleaning.Sometimes with new orings more fuel is send to the injectors,so I would lean it out. Thanks Charles
How does this sounds to you all?

What's the status of your warm-up regulator? Hasn't this car been sitting at the paint shop for a year? The WUR may have gotten plugged up during that time. I'd make sure the cold and warm control pressures are reasonably in spec first.

Hi Luis,

WUR is fine. Car was up and running prior to removing it 2 weeks ago to ship it to the re-builder. I did do some A/F Adjustments this morning with no luck. Next I will bleed the system in the order given by the Re-builder as well as the WUR, even though I don't think this is the issue.

I would think any air in the lines would bleed out as soon as the fuel pump ran.Like when you turn on the water hose. Keep us posted.

Exactly why I am not buying that troubleshooting procedure the Rebuilder suggested. I think something is not right with the FD itself. Can't mess with it this weekend so it will have to wait.

Yes, unhook it. It didn't react right away though. It was still on when I unhooked it, but the next day it was off and stayed off.

The FD is still an issue. I pulled the System Pressure Screw to see why my System Pressure was a little low and there were no shims. Although I don't think this is the main issue, I'm going to give it a try this Sunday when I have time. Then I will send it back to the Rebuilder.

I unhooked it and now my low fuel light and ! light are off. Fuel gauge still works. Thanks for the heads up. I replaced the system pressure reg valve and put at least 8 shims in to bring my system press up from 68 to 78 psi. After doing this It still ran the same which is mostly crappy. Gunar

Excellent! Yes, I am in agreeance that even bringing up my Pressure, it won't help how fuhked up it runs. I got Rjm65 to give me a hand on Sunday. We'll see if the FD ends up going through my Windshield or not

Ok all, Rjm65 came over this morning to make sure I didn't throw my Fuel Distributor through my Windshield. I removed the FD just to make sure the O-Ring was there. We added a couple shims to get my System Pressure up, which worked very well. Ok, we did Control Pressure and Systems Pressures and all was good, but we still didn't get much flow to the Injectors. We did a good bleed down and still nothing.

Last ditch effort before I went psycho on my car, Rjm65 suggested to move my A/F Clockwise while the Fuel pump is jumpered till the Injectors started to make the singing noise. Did that and then went Lean 1/4 Turn. From my old A/F setting to the new setting was about 3-3/4 Turns to Rich. Cranked it over again and Walla! That was it! She idles like a champ. Waited till I got to operating temp and then adjusted the A/F to about 13.5

Just goes to show that the easy stuff is what we always forget. "Always go back to the Basics." Still can't figure out the slow throttle up hesitation issue, which it still does.

Now I just have to put my Smog Pump Belt back on and adjust my front shocks up about 1/2 inch. Then it's off to the Smog Station.

To clarify, so you had to turn the A/F screw 3 and 3/4 turns CW to richen? What psi did you shim the system pressure to? You still have hesitation/bogging down on full throttle? Gunar

Yes, clockwise is Richening. Not sure on the PSI but before it was just under spec and now it's within. My Euro never had bogging at WOT, just at idle up slowly it would hesitate.

Hence, why I kept telling you to either replace your FD with one of the Black ones or maybe send it to that Rebuilder place and have them Rebuild and Set your Adjustable parts to Spec. He's closer to you so turnaround would be a lot faster for you.

I also didn't have time to drive it yesterday, but will give it a road test after work.

The Euro is going to work with me tomorrow, then possibly straight to the Smog Guy after work. Still getting hesitation but I am going to just go for it. Timing is back to spec and it idles ok. The main thing I looked for in my old Smog Test Pass Sheet was the rpms they will test at for 15mph then 25mph and my A/F looks ok at those speeds, so we'll just have to see.

Wish me luck.

the saga is nearly over...

That's great Leo, I hope to hear good news from your test Thursday night...Your car deserve legal California status after all the work you put into it...

I remember when you picked up the then red machine, which you completely restored...seems like just yesterday...

Hey Leo, what brand of gauges did you get for your black 928? I like your blue air/fuel gauge. I am interested in getting a three gauge setup for my car, and basically removing the radio, I was thinking:

Transmission temperature
Air Fuel
Engine Temp (not sure which though)

Hey Al. The A/F is an "Innovative" Brand Wideband set up. Very useful in knowing what your Air/Fuel Ratio is doing at all times. It will be your most expensive gauge in your gauges set up.

Thanks for the thoughts!

Here she is, hanging out on the side street parking near my work. Next stop, Smog Nazis.

What do you guys think of the Front Wheel height? I think I raised it too high. What do ya think?

Very nice Leo - but does look a little high. On both my cars here the ground to arch height is right on 25 1/4 inches, and they do look better IMO.
