84 trans/diff ?

I am trying to remove the governor out of a spare transmission. I need it for my US 84 928. It's sitting on the floor, and I have a few questions...

Do I need to separate the trans from the differential to get the governor out?

Besides the three allen nuts, and single bolt, what else needs to come out? Put another way, how exactly does the governor come out.... ?

stuck

Al, is that a A22 or A28? I can send you the shop info if it would help. I have your email address, so just reply back here and i'll send now.
It's shop manual 3, pages 38 - 143 - 145.

What happened? Your Trans Mechanic needs this part to fix your other one?

governor removed...

Having the correct documentation is always the way to go. Once I read through the steps it only took 2 minutes to remove...

The trans is now shifting in all gears, but it required the valve body from the spare 84 euro trans. Still, my mechanic wasn't happy with smoothness of the downshifting, so before he pulls the trans apart for a second time he asked me to supply the governor from the spare trans... as he believes it to be tbe cause of the rough downshifting...

Hey Man, I might have my car back as soon as Thursday, Friday this week...

Here is a governor for ya....

Oh, that sucks. So you could have easily just removed the Valve Body for the old one and put in your tranny this whole time. Did he tell you what exactly was wrong with your old one?

Kinda doesn't sound right that he's pulling pieces off your spare tranny when he originally was telling you that he knew what the exact problem was.

More fun than fixing software....

The use of the spare parts is my idea to save time/costs. He could have rebuilt the valve body, but I offered my spare trans up for anything he needs to get one of the transmissions working perfectly.

My day yesterday was interesting, I fixed defective Oracle Pl/SQL code by day, and removed transmission components by night--- the latter is pretty cool stuff...

next steps...

I met with the transmission guy today, he removed and disassembled the trans in his shop, he found a bad B2 band which he missed on the first tear down. Here is a photo of the old and new B2 band, which is essentially a $295 mercedes part (looks like an overpriced dog collar to me)...

He said that all gears work fine, it just had some rougness in the downshifting, which is apparently due to the this worn out B2 band. He still wants to swap out the governor as a precaution, as it relates to the B2 band. The car should be ready on Friday...

Very Good, very nice.

He should also replace the B2 piston with the upgraded piston and sleeve! (search rennlist / I put some photos there)
(can be done with trans in car later, but hard)

Monday, maybe...

I went to the shop at lunch, everything was back together and the mechanic made two test drives, and two sets of adjustments to the valve body and the vacum system.

All gears work, but he believes a seal associated with the valve body is leaking, as the smoothness from 1st to 2nd gear is "not right" in his words.

He's a perfectionist, I have to wait it out until Monday.

Another weekend without a porsche is starting to wear on me..., I think I need pickup an S4 to brighten up my day...we'll see...

LOL, I have the 86 running perfectly - wife driving it -, and my 81 undergoing major rewire, intake refresh and radiator replacement - and my daughter just told me her 84 euro is running great and she is enjoying 80p+ temps in South Carolina!

Chris, I'll be driving my daughters 84 around Newport News, VA Beach, Williamsburg, - last 2 weeks of May while she moves up there to Yorktown, - maybe we can do a GTG.

Thanks Al for the link. This will help me with the Euro Tranny. The Valve Body had some scarring on it so may need to be replaced. The Governor seemed to operate smoothly but I don't know any better.
