Erm.. Almost don't dare to ask: Getting Antenna out..

Tiny job I hope, replace motorised antenna on my 1984 EuroS.
I have unscrewed until I have a 'metal box' hanging in the wheel-well.
But I cant for the life of me see how to unscrew the part that sticks out the top so I can remove the whole box.

It is possible: right?

So: Mudguard off (3x 8mm screws)
1x 10mm bolt loosened, then the 'metal box' was loose.
Unscrewed at the top, the actual 'core' came out (broken?)
But the black asymetrical plastic + circular metal bit won't move.

Should I be unscrewing something else?
The WSM just says "remove Antenna".. so I feel a little awkward asking.

It's the surround on the outside of the body. It is a bolt that surrounds the antenna. Then your antenna will drop to the ground.

Thanks. I though something like that, but mine has a strange 'nut' at the top.
I landed up unscrewing the box at the bottom, and have everything out.

Do you know if the replacement ones (like the one on MPDano's picture above) fit back into the metal housing, or do you mount them directly?

Not that I know of. I just put a Universal Hirschman in my "S." I just got the part number off eBay listing and found another online vendor that was cheaper. I ended up getting the Black one.

if you use/r going to use the kind you have , with good motor you can buy the mast w/ toothed plastic cable cheap(it will say H on the mast top/correct fitment hirshman(spelling). *instructions incl. -- turn on radio motor drives what will be antenna mast up, hold the cable to antenna hole shut off radio the motor is retracting and itll grab the cable and pull it in. may have to feed it few times.

yours completely shot? -- clean up contacts everything a bit so you can have a look at it. bat charger cable you can test (in this case pos/neg correctness, do not put them on wrong wires it will fry it.(i had a 78euro and 82 us ) i had blue,purple,yellow,orange,black,brown.... wires where yours looks like just red, green it was crazy fixing between the two of them splicing and crimping connectors then matching the non correct colors to pcar connections to install. *the little plastic wheel (your picture) between the motor and winder cant be broken and move freely. lubricate parts/and each section of antenna going up/down. The housing there doesnt seem to keep that motor very dry , make sure weather tight/rubber grommets .. what was hoplessly baaaad has been working for yrs.

Thanks both for the feedback. I will try to clean it up & put a new mast in. If it doesn't work (or breaks again) I'll replace with new Hirschmann. Both options will be up to me finding an on-line store in France where I live that sell the part.
Pretty much in the middle of no-where here.

Thanks both. I am travelling in Holland at the moment and will try a shop there first.
