So it's been a little bit, just getting over the flu so let's get back to it. Here's a pic of the cleaner engine.

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1328840890.jpg

I need to do a little more on the passenger side, but it's certainly much better than it was. Any tips on how to get the intake gaskets off? Those things are stuck down pretty good.

On the fuel line front, I finally got the new line in a huuggee box. I laid it next to the old line and it looks as if it all lines up OK until it would bend up into the engine compartment. The end that goes in the engine compartment after it goes through the last clip looks to be a lot longer than the old one. If anybody has a pic of the line in the car where it connects to the supply hose in the engine compartment, that would be helpful. I'm going to take a crack at putting it in tomorrow after work, but since it may be too long, I don't think it will actually work, but we'll see. I bent the 1st one up pretty good so I really don't know exactly what it should look like up there.

I should be sending the injectors out some time next week, and shortly after sending them, I'll be getting the powder coating on the spider as well. With any luck, I can give this thing a crank come March.

I used a combo of razor blades and nice new and sharp gasket removal blade. Its like a scraper and a chisel. Becareful not to score the surface. Take your time

So I've been able to get some stuff done over the past week. Wife & I got our first kid showing up in May so getting the room together has taken precedent lately. The unfortunate news is that the fuel line I got is, in fact, not the correct line. I got part # 928 356 029 05, which is the part listed on the PET for 83-86 models. It notes 85 on the PET, but the only other option was for an 86, so I took a shot and totally missed. I think the part I actually need is 928 356 029 03, which started in the 80 model and shows up on the PET for 78-82 models. Before I order this one, I'm definitely going to get confirmation from somebody in the know. Not sure what I'm gonna do with the one I have, perhaps make an abstract sculpture...

Anyway, I've been cleaning stuff up. I got the air guide housing and throttle body cleaned up, replaced the seals and got those ready to drop back in. I started cutting the silicone vacuum hose to get those going, and I replaced the thermo valve I broke. I was also able to get the intake gaskets off of the head with a razor blade and abnormal amount of patience. Due to the whole fuel line fiasco, funds are dwindling quickly so I'm not sure I'm still going to powder coat the spider. I may just clean it up good and put it back on as-is for now, and save the powder coating for the next go around in a year or two. At most, I may get a nice silver engine paint and do it up that way. If I was to go that route, I could use the paint on the fuel rails also, correct? I'm hoping to get the air guide housing/throttle body back in and all the vacuum hoses replaced by the end of the week. Moving right along...

Forgot to mention that I got the tank back in and buttoned up with some new seals. Went pretty smooth. Tonight I got the vacuum hoses in and the throttle body/air guide in. The air guide isn't quite sitting flat, it's leaning a little forward, probably because there's not 3 inches of crud underneath. I'm hoping once the mass air flow meter and spider are back in, it'll hold in place well. Speaking of crud, I figured out where that mystery bolt that was dug out of the valley came from. It's one of the 4 bolts that holds the air box to the mass air flow meter. We are getting there.

Couple weeks without an update, so here's one w/ pics. Re-assembly has commenced, I've figured out the correct fuel line that I need, found one and ordered it. It's on back order so it'll be here at some point. As I said, I passed on powdercoating the spider due to the cost involved with rectifying the fuel line scenario, so I just cleaned it up real nice and left it at that. Next time around, I'll definitely do it up right. Aside from waiting on the fuel line, the last thing on the list is sending the injectors out which I'll be doing next week. With any luck, she'll be fired up by mid-April. Here's pics:

It cleaned up pretty nice. After looking at the pics, I need to give a little love to the passenger side TB cover. I have some new clips for the new spark plug wires on the way, but I couldn't wait so I'll get the wires looking prettier when they show up. Once the engine is all squared away, I'll get to the hood insulation and front shock absorbers so I can finally get the teeth and chin back up to snuff. Feeling pretty good.

[QUOTE=MPDano;6497659]Simple Green, Small Paint Scraper and lots of paper towels. Get new Couplers for your Spider as well as gaskets. Replace all your vacuum lines as well. Now is also the time to figure out if your going to paint or powdercoat your Spider.

I just bought a long piece of 45mm or 1-3/4" ID Silicone Hose and cut it to length (around 2"). Example in this eBay auction. 1 piece will make 5 couplers. You need 8 so buy 2.

i saw those on there, I was going to ask if they'd work, but you answered my question in advance, I was not sure on the size.

also, when i was doing my plugs and wires, I broke some of the air line connectors, not really sure what they exactly are... they are 3/16 rubber hoses, and i cracked some of the old dried out connectors while snaking the plug wires through.

if i were so inclined to replace the old rubber hoses, and fittings, will these work? I figured if I bought new silicone boots, i would get red, and therefore continue the colorway with red silicone tubes?

Not sure, there are a few vac hose sizes in the Intake Refreshing. I cheated and used 928 Motorsports kit and used their lengths and sizes to purchase outside. In hindsight, his are most likely better and thicker walled stuff which you "need" in vac lines.

tychain99 05-29-2012 07:14 PM

"need" sarcasm?

No sarcasm. Just fact. a thin walled vac line will collapse when a thicker one wont.

tychain99 05-30-2012 07:41 PM

just looked it up on the 928 motor sports website, seems reasonable to purchase. I am sure your could piece it out cheaper, but this leaves less concern regarding sidewall thickness etc..

i also ordered that new hood pad from classic 9 the other day.. i think you posted pics before of yours so i went with it. did you take the hood off the car to install? figured easiest thing would be take it off, lay it upside down, strip all the old junk off the bottom, clean it good.. and then the new one just sticks in there... using what type of adhesive?

Hi guys, it's certainly been a while. Big things going on lately so the ride had to take a back seat for a bit. Had a beautiful baby boy come into the world on April 29. 7lbs 12oz and every bit amazing. He's doing really well, not keeping us up too bad a night, but as a first time father, I'll take as much as he can give.

So to the car...the fuel line has been the neverending saga, but there is finally an ending in sight and with any luck this puppy may be purring again this weekend. The 1st line I got was brand new straight from Porsche, but it turned out to be for an 85 which didn't fit the 84 once it turned up into the engine compartment. Found the right one and it showed up with a small kink in it. That's about when the boy showed up and things went on pause. Luckily, the 2nd line came from an 81 and came with the rubber supply line attached. So I popped the fittings out of the hose and got some new 5/16" hose. Then I cut the lines, the 85 I cut right before the engine compartment because it fits up to there, the 81 line after the bend into the compartment, and flared the ends. The new hose and fittings will be used to make a connecting piece. Here a pic of half the line so far.

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1338602434.jpg

Once I get the 85 line fitted under the car, I'll measure out the other end of hose, attach the other fitting and be done with it. Once that's in, I can finally gas it up and get to business. Not sure I mentioned the injectors were sent to witchhunter. They did a great job, came back spic n span and went in without a hitch. Once it's running, I need to get to changing the trans fluid, swap out the front shocks so the grill will go back on right, and throw the spoiler on. I may have an issue with my power steering fluid, but I haven't looked too much into that yet.

That's the update, we'll see how the weekend goes.

MPDano 06-01-2012 08:29 PM

Wicked! Congrats Dad!

tychain99 06-01-2012 09:15 PM

got that hood pad in today.... thought for 85 bucks they would have put the decals on themselves. WTF.... going to get into the 928 hood pad business and start making serious loot.

tychain99 06-01-2012 09:16 PM

that will be tomorrows project , pics to follow
