Quarter Window Install Video

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_TM6GZWQZFg

Had to replace a glass in Marvin and went ahead and video taped the process. This is how I do this. Feel free to add comments.

The worlds best write-up will never be as great as watching a well done how-to video like this one.

Might want to add this to MPDano's Issues and Fixes thread.

Ron, there are no deals for quarter glass rubber. The closest I can get you to a deal is duct tape and roofing tar.

That is all

"some people put the trim in with the window already set....some people can do it"

I love the fact that you brought that up because I'm one of the ones who can't do it.

I saved up the money and bought two brand new ones from pelican...$400 roughly...only new parts I've bought because searching for other options in the rainy season gets old quick.

I installed them and rationalized that the trim goes on last...had to take them both out and do it all again the right way...

Great video Dean, I'm such a bonehead...i always get too excited for a project and then too frustrated during to ever pick up a video recorder.

Toast to you my friend.

How do you get the window out without breaking it or the seal? I've seen a lot of folks cutting the seal to save their windows.

Owning a 928 is risky business - but sometimes you just gotta say "what the fudge".

Dean,,,no disrespect intended ,although you managed to get the glass in the car you left out the most important part,,,sealing it,,,you should have run a bead in the channel before the glass went into the seal and another before the rope,,,,vaseline is not needed ,,,glass cleaner would have done just fine,,,,,you stand a chance at your mldgs popping out as the vaseline will not dry,,,and next time start with putting the narrowest part of the glass in position before pulling the rope,,,,,this method will be much more successful in keeping out the water,,,,,,,if you notice removing ,the glass is sealed along with the seal from the factory

If the trim is pulled off you just need to push hard from the inside of the car at the LONG edge of the glass. Once a small edge of glass clears the seal then your good to go. That glass is TUFF to break.

No problem.

I would of rather used a water based lub like personal lub but I did not have any. I have not had a problem with the molding poping out after the install. As far as a sealant. One could use some but I did not. I have not had a water leak as long as the car, seal and glass are clean before installing and the seal is not slit or torn at the folded lip area that seals to car egde. If the seal has ANY damage then the sealant would be a VERY needed addition. I will add a note to the youtube video in the discription about the use of sealant if one wants to use it.

Quarter windows had to be the most pleasant glass experience i ever had.
hatch open, reach in holding chord with one hand, apply pressure with other.

Bluemane how are you?

If the seal is undamaged I see no way it would leak with or without sealant. If its got damage then reusing with sealant would be required for sure.

I have removed 5 windows. Remove trim. Push from inside at top ( long side at middle were you get the most movement) Curl seal lip down and around the body lip and PUSH HARD. Have someone out side help. As soon as the glass or seal seperates get you fingers in there and pull. Out of 5 windows I have only damaged one seal removing.

Also of note...Used 1/4 glass can be had for $50 ea. New seal is over $200 ea. ?? I would break the glass if I thought the seal was good ( if I could not remove it otherwise ) before I would cut the seal to remove the glass. Thats just me.

I did post in the notes of the video the use of sealant if one wants to.
