Lights and speedo problems

Usually I can handle most problems concerning my 1978 928 Porsche.
but two items are driving me a little crazy. one my headlights work well, at least they lite up as they should but the motor that should raise theme seems to have a mind of it's own when I turn on the headlights the motor continues to run causing the lights to go up and go down on a continuous pattern until I either turn of the lights or turn off the key. I replaced the headlight motor which I thought was bad it didn't help. Both motors did the same thing (Running constantly up and down) When I purchased this car the headlights were in this condition so I don't know if the wiring is correct at the connector or not. I have done most of the normal checks (grounds, wiring for shorts fuses relays and so on no help.

Second, the speedometer is not working as it should it shows speed up to 20 mph then it falls back to zero doesn't matter either way forward or backwards it shows the same reading. I replaced the speed sensor with new unit but same results. I removed the instrument panel and inspected the speedo but nothing looked bad or burned gears all seem to have there teeth in place. I think it time to throw in the towel as I have reached my limit of ability concerning the problems I hope someone has encountered these problems and can help me out, thank you in advance for any suggestions that might shed some light (no pun intended) on my problem.

Thank you

Does your headlight issue look like this?

If you verified that the Relay is ok then swap out the HL Switch.

hmmm... I would say that you need to check the headlight relay and its connection to the CE panel, it could be a faulty headlight switch, and of course if you haven't dusted your grounds in a while then I would start there. But 75% relay or connection to panel.

headlights - I dont think this is a wiring issue......... This sounds more like a faulty dash knob switch or a relay problem (relay, relay, relay....). Check the relay first located under the passenger glove box. I may have a spare dash knob switch for you. Let me know and I will send it to you free of charge.

speedo - these dash pod circuit films are notorious for failing and for some reason always seem to affect the speedo; ask me how I know....my fix for this was to find an operable circuit film which usually entails the whole pod having to be purchased. The speedo reed switch that attaches to the tranny housing rarely fails in my experience. Start hunting the internet for a new pod; I think I purchased mine for 100 bucks....
