Correcting the crossed 6&7 wires did it now she starts and idles fine. Next find out what’s causing the rattle from the mid rear of the drivetrain. But before that...
While filling the June bought radiator from EBay

I swear this car is trying to kill me
While refilling the transmission checking the tt rattle my thumb slipped into the inspection hole and tore off part of me thumb nail.
I’m done!!
The pic grosses me out so I won’t share.
I missed an afternoon at work.

Hey Rufrob - In sorting out your wiring you've made another great step in reviving your 928...... Watch the fingers though - the consequences can be dire. In Texas you can always spot a Rodeo Team Roper because they are often missing a digit or two from dallying up. We don't want to have to change your Avatar.

Sadly - on occasion there are issues with Ebay parts. Their customer service people are usually very supportive in correcting or replacing a defective item. It may now become a matter of justifying the return shipping cost or repairing the radiator locally.

Good Luck, Michael

Well this is it for now. Lets hope the JB Weld holds. This engine sounds a lot healthier than the other.

JB Weld -

Hey Rufrob - How is your radiator repair holding up ? Hopefully it will be long term. The JB Weld epoxy you used should seal a cracked aluminum radiator OK as long as the damaged surface was pre-cleaned really well with alcohol and a toothbrush.

Years ago I made a Texas Speedway track side repair on a 930 water-cooled intercooler using JB Weld + a small square piece of aluminum. A missed turn punched a dime size hole that was patched long enough to finish the days events.

Good Luck Michael

Unfortunately I won’t be able to do much more on this car.
I got a dream career opportunity which will require lots of traveling, at least for 6 months starting in December.
So I really should thin the herd. This will be the 3rd 928 I planned to keep but ended up selling.
First one I got an offer I could not refuse.
Second one was during Lehman, I put up both my 930 and the 928 and the 928 sold first.
And now this.
If I can find reasonably priced protected parking I would keep it, so let’s see what I can find in the next little while. Paying $300 a month for a gravel parking spots is not cheap.
So...
Here it the info:
1989 Porsche 928 S4

VIN: WPOZZZ92ZKS841153

98,000km

Black on Black

Sunroof

Leather interior, except dash board

5 litre 32valve motor

4 speed automatic transmission

List of work done:

Engine swap due to thrust bearing failure on original motor

Thrust bearing end flow 0.2mm on used 88 engine #M28/42 81H05845

Timing belt

Water pump

Front cam shaft seals

Front and rear crank shaft seals

Flywheel bolts

Oil pan gasket

Left and right head gaskets

32 valve seals

Timing belt tensioner boot and gaskets

Oil filter

Spark plugs

Low pressure Power steering hose

Alternator clean and voltage regulator check

Cleaned and painted fuel injectors

New front and rear fuel hoses

Air pump delete and head port plugs

Used front wiring harness

Rebuilt MAF sensor

2 new knock sensors

New radiator with atf and engine oil cores

Rebuilt torque tube bearing

Transmission torque converter cover bearings

New transmission fluid hoses

Transmission filter and fluid

Rebuilt instrument cluster wiring hardness

Cleaned CE

Cleaned power window motors and regulators

New steel braided brake hoses

Brake pads and rotors well within specs.

New fuel pump, bypassed in-tank pump

All electrics work except for Air Conditioning.

To make it perfect:

Slight rattle from the torque tube, possibility shifted bearings.

Dent on left front wing near side marker

Rear bumper clear coat peel

Minor dent on left and right rear fenders

Small rust around rear glass

Missing engine under guard

Oil pressure gauge doesn’t work due to digital dash/2 prong oil pressure sender incompatibility

ABS light on due to deteriorated wiring connectors

I will try to address some of those issues the longer I have it.

I basically have 2 weekends to do it and repair the bumper on my E430.

Took a weekend off from the 928 to catch-up on maintenance on other cars in my fleet.
Valve cover gaskets for the E55 and E430, aftermarket navigation system removal from the 996tt. Pulling the covers off the 930 revealed 2 wicked dents sustained during the massive typhoon which occurred 1 month ago. Oh dear.

The front fender dent looks like something came at it sideways!!

Typhoon Insurance Policy -

Hey Rufrob - Do you have to carry an additional insurance side policy on your cars to cover the typical assortment of typhoon damage in Japan ? I had a (some what) similar run of bad luck a couple of months ago. One of Bambi's family members tried to take a shortcut across my 911 and put a big dent in the front fender, hood, upper windshield frame and deck lid. All I got was a glimpse of the the hooves going past the windshield but with all the damage it must have been a real fat A$$. At least you can see a typhoon coming......

Unfortunately I didn’t have comprehensive. So I’m SOOL.
I’ll be taking off in 10 days so there is precious little I can do. Thankfully I’ll be gone during the typhoon season.
I do like the GMC Typhoon. The only American car I would buy.

Twin Girlfriends - Great Progress -

Hey Rufrob - You've certainly come a long way since your 928 project began and things are definitely looking good. How did you wind up with a dent just above the rear wheel in virtually the exact same place on both sides of your car ? Did you tick-off two coordinating girlfriends at the same time ?

Michael

My mom warned me about vengeful, jealous women from an early age so.... thankfully no.
I got it like that. Front front fender was my fault when a loader truck I was driving slipped on ice right into it.
Thanks

Rob,
I would find it necessary for my mental health to drive that car for at least 6 months after doing that much work to it.

No way could I sell it right away.

Great job. Car looks good.

Even my woman says the same. I’ll try but during career changes liquidity is more important than passion.

So I’m back from a brutal 2 business trip and had another week of putting out fires. I only managed to refit the car cover and advertise the car for sale in Pelican Forum. Before I left I repaired the rust and dented rear 1/4s. I’m close to figuring out the OPS wiring at the 14pin connector.
Tomorrow I’m off again for until New Years.
A whole 45days without touching my cars. No wonder I’m stressed and depressed.

Back into it.
I pulled the TT to find the strange bearing noise right at the clamp in the TT. Apart from the separated damper I couldn’t find a reason for the noise.
Bearings did not migrate.
Any suggestions

I ended up changing the bearings again. While putting it back together the hand cart the trany was on split in two. 500kg capacity my butt. This time every thing went back together by the book. All proper bolts and torque, refilled the tranny. But i could only get 1 forward gear. No bearing noise.
My coolant leak was from a loose heater hose, oil leak from loose oil filter. I ran out of day light so tomorrow I’ll wash it and take it back to it’s parking spot. This time people are actually bidding on it.
Let hope it reaches the reserve!!
