Ignition System Test. Now what?

My 1990 C4 idling is erratic when engine is cold. The idle would drop about 300-400 rpm and back to 900-1000 again. This would cycle for about 10-15 mins. I cleaned the ISV, checked vacuum leaks, replaced cap/rotor and airflow meter as well. But the problem was persistent. Valve job just completed 3K miles ago with new plugs/wires. The last mechanic said the car is logging code 41 and 34 and to just live with it since it runs well when engine is warm. So when I got home I tested the ignition system and here's what I found.
TEST #1:
I tested the coils by switching the coil wires from the distributor side. When I disconnect the coil wire #2 from the secondary distributor (away from fender), idle was okay. But when I disconnected the coil wire #1 from the primary distributor, the engine would ping/misfire. I then plugged the coil wire #1 to secondary distributor to see if it would have the same result. The result was the engine would crank but not turn over to start. It didn't matter whether coil wire #1 or #2 that I plugged into the secondary dist. The results were either ping/misfire or no start.
Test #2:
The next test I did was to unplug the rear ignition module connector from respective coil (leaving the fwd connector plugged), the engine ping/misfires. I then took the fwd connector and plugged it to the rear IM. The result was ping/misfires. It didn't matter which IM I plugged the fwd connector, the result was pings/misfires. (On the other hand when I plugged the aft ignition module connector to fwd or rear IM. The idle was okay.)

So do I have a bad coil or a bad secondary distributor? Is the Hall sensor in the secondary dist?
