92 965 even trade for my 97 cab... hmmmm

looking for some input

My brother has a 92 965 blk/blk that he doesn't drive much, and he really likes likes my 993 Cab blk/blk/tan very clean, here's the catch, his 965 has 93 964 3.6 NA motor, he had bought the 965 with out a motor and trans, the chassis has 48k on it and its good shape as far as the body goes, I was thinking of turning it into a 3.8 RSR, whats your thoughts

Looks nice.

Not sure what your 993 is like or worth but I have seen 3.6T tubs no drive train sell for $36k this being a 3.3 maybe less plus what he has in it.

IMO 3.8RS clones have suddenly become a big thing. Wish I came across a car like this to modify instead of doing a complete conversion. You would be looking at a considerable sum to build a 3.8 RSR clone a tribute maybe less depends on how far you want to take it.

You have the brakes would need to upgrade the fronts and change over to narrow body trailing arms, tail and a 3.8 conversion would be quite costly depending on how far you take it (sunroof delete etc.) If you want real RSR speedlines they are expensive and impossible to come by. A tribute you can pick and choose what changes you make.

IMO from a somewhat purist approach both aesthetically and fun to drive factor, a light weight 964 with wide body, narrow trailing arms and increased HP checks all the boxes and then some.

Even with the incorrect engine installed I would trade him. I would absolutely love a black 965 and would get rid of my 964 in a heart beat to do so. This is just me, though.

I would trade my black/black c4 for the 965, even as a roller if interested. If your not feeling the cab as much as he is why not?

Make the trade...do not turn it into a 3.8 RSR! Save some cash....mortgage the house....sell the kids...and buy a proper turbo engine for it.

It's been awhile sense my last post, but that's what happens when you drive a 993 NA car nothing to report,

I have a update on the 965 trade, I just got back from a test drive in AZ, AC works..
thank god..

Its a true 1992 964 Turbo one of 289 built that year, Blk on Blk full leather interior and trim, two owner car with 48000 miles,

Starts and drives great and that 3.6 NA engine feels peppy the engine sound different than the 993, I'm sure the hydraulic lifters have something to do with it, it feels like it may need to be corner balanced, my brother installed H &R lowering springs, it feels off.

The 3.6 Na motor has one exhaust outlet on the right, and the 965 has dual outlet bumper, looks bad, so i will need a dual out muffler for a 964 .

Here's whats wrong with the car, It Leaks power steering fluid from somewhere around the reservoir, should be a easy fix, rear lighting need to be replaced , they look pink, the read deck is warped, because of the AZ heat and it's leather

The brakes on the 965 use a electric hydraulic pump system, the brakes need to be bleed correctly, it's a process,

The gear lever has a weird thing going on , a first the gear lever acted normal, as drove the can for a while the gear started to get sticky, like the linkage is rubbing or catching on something, maybe the tranny mounts are going bad, or the tunnel cover is pushed up onto it,

The tires are shot and dried up, the wheels are ok, but a set 18 RH's would look better, but for now they will stay, the front bumper and hood is pitted really bad , like he drove behind a gravel truck for a hour the rest of the paint looks great, and there's a door ding on the driver door,

over all not a bad car.

So looks like I have something to work on this spring, I will post pic's when she arrives.

thank you guys for your encouragement on doing the trade.

I would absolutely love a C2-based Turbo-look 964 for a little 3.8RS tribute action.

Helios what's up ? That's definetly a no brainer ! Not really sure why you took the time to ask ! Haha
Really looks like a great swap and you should easily be able to sell the NA engine and get into a
C2 turbo .
Nate Askew had one not sure if he still does, may be a few other s around hint hint.
Buy in good stead, good luck with your project...Bert

You don't need to follow a gravel truck to have a front end that looks like that after 48k miles. All you have to do is drive in traffic at speed periodicly...and do no chip repair. Looks like a nice, honest car, good luck with her.
