Fabsport CAT bypass install question

Looking at installing the Fabspeed cat bypass on my 2001 996. Is this a DIY? What is involved? I assume PB Blaster will be my friend. Also, I know to protect themselves Fabspeed says the cat bypass systems are only for off road or track. Realistically, I just want a beefier sound and don't do the track. Are these okay for a street car?

Yes, lots of pb blaster
It’s fairly straightforward, unbolt the cat flange from the header, and the slip connection from the crossover pipe and bolt in the bypass pipe
It will be louder, and likely will set off a check engine light
Do you have emission control where you are?
If so, you will have to reinstall the cats, then do the drive cycle to reset the cat monitors prior to smog check

I tried a Cat Delete from Vertex. It is not an X pipe design like the Fabspeed one. With Fabspeed mufflers it was just a bit over the top on the amount of noise on the throttle. I replaced the set with a Fabspeed 200 cell X pipe set and have been really happy with the result.

I had to cold chisel my bolts off. ARP bolts work for replacement. I would recommend new connector clamps if yours have any corrosion or grit in them. My old ones just would not snug down good enough the seal the gas flow.
