IMS lawsuit, but not my VIN?!

Morning all!

Got the IMS lawsuit info in the mail. Noticed my VIN is not listed (2003 C4 tiptronic 3.6). I got this car with 70k on the odometer. Is it possible the IMS was done already? No paper-trail. Wondering why I got the info mailed to me... (I can't do anything anyway since its been 10 years since the car was built).

Is there any way of telling if it was done from an external visual? Or..?

Thanks!
Bill

post your VIN. if the engine has been replaced already it will may have a vin which indicates replacement engine. it is possible it has the newer engine with the "final solution" (06 style) bearing.

No, there is no way to know if it has been done from the outside; your only chance of "provenance" is a paper trail or talking with the shop that did the install. This is why we caution buyer's that bring PPI's to us whose current owner claims has been already upgraded. Without a trail, anyone can claim the car has been done, there is no real way to tell without taking it apart.

A VIN won't tell you that, you need the numbers off the engine case.

I will try and locate the engine case numbers. Is it safe to say that just because my VIN isn't listed on the lawsuit doesn't necessarily mean I am good to go though, right?

Post your engine number

If the engine is a factory rebuild/replace it will have an "AT" in it.

M96/03AT66566586

M96/03 = 3.6

AT = Factory Rebuild

665 = 6 cyl, normally aspirated, 2005

last 5 digits is 66586 .

Right...I had a complete brain cramp. In my mind I thought engine number but typed out VIN. Thanks for correcting.
