996 C4S mods and local shop recommendations?

Hello Forum -

I own a '04 C4S Silver, Black Int. Just purchased last year. Have enjoyed the car very much. Am looking now to add some fixins... 2 questions here.

1) Live in Bay Area (Peninsula, San Mateo County) and need a recommendation on quality shops in area. Looking to first do ECU/remapping then maybe a body addition (rear wing potentially). I've seen Sharkwerks at a couple of car shows locally. Please give me your recommendations. They will go farther in my book than seeing a company at a show.

2) any recommended mods?? Like i said, first will be ECU/remapping. Then maybe a rear wing, maybe.. here is what the car has so far:

Arctic Silver Exterior with Black Full Leather Interior
Recently Serviced @ 61,000 miles new spark plugs, belt, ect.
New 19" Rodrick wheels shown in pictures with new Hankook tires (245/35/19 Front - 295/35/19 Rear)
Litronic Head lights
Navigation with Multi Disc CD Changer
new porsche carbon fiber shifter ***
new aluminum door handles to match aluminum center console
painted yellow (all four) brake calipers
new front silver porsche emblem on hood
new clutch installed 10/09/13 along with recently upgraded IMS oil lubricating kit ($1,799)/ 10/09/13
brand new aluminium pedals
new porsche floor mats
Brand new GT2 front bumper with black mess in air intakes
Push button exhaust option
Rennline strut tower braces front and Genuine Porsche Sun Guard Visor.

Thanks for any and all recommendations!

Before even thinking about modifications, you should be looking to strengthen the foundation; IMS/RMS updates, spin on oil filter, 160F thermostat, magnetic drain plug and FilterMag. Adding a third radiator is also a good add on.

Do your homework before re-flashing the DME, several of the highly advertised systems, while fairly expensive, add minimal power and often then only near the top end of the RPM scale. When you read between the lines of their promotional materials, you find very modest gains on vehicles with a lot of other modifications (headers, exhaust systems, intake modifications, etc.), which means you are only going to see the claimed modest gains if you have already done all the other stuff first.

A lot of Porsche aftermarket vendors make big claims that ultimately cannot be substantiated on a dyno.

FilterMag is a neodymium magnetic assembly that attaches to the side of a spin on filter, turning the entire filter housing into a powerful magnet that will trap any ferrous material in the oil system, even particles too fine for the filter to trap.

Amazon (amongst others) carry them.

thanks for feedback. for the IMS/RMS, I'm hoping the IMS oil lubricating kit installed last year is the answer. from the service shop, it was the latest LN solution last year; from the service records it was from IMS Solution LLC.
New clutch installed 10/09/13

Hadn't heard of thermostat, magnetic drain plug, and FilterMag.. Will look into those.

If you have any recommendations on which mods makes sense to start with, I'd appreciate it. I'll look around on the Forums as well.

If you car has the LN IMS Solution installed, you are well ahead of the game. That is the only permanent IMS replacement on the market.

I remain very circumspect about a lot of the aftermarket stuff, including the intake plenum replacements and the DME re-flash. We have looked at this stuff a couple of times, and quite plainly you will spend a lot of $ for some small gains that typically occur outside normal RPM usage. We have seen customers spend thousands and thousands of dollars on exhaust systems, flashes, and other bits, only to get maybe 25-30HP. Best advice is if you want a lot of additional power, sell the car and buy a turbo model.

Sharkwerks is one of the top water cooled builders in the country, but their specialty is Mezger engines. They also manufacture top quality exhaust systems. Regardless, it is worth calling them. They are right across the bay in Fremont.

RMG and BR Racing are in Silicon Valley. It is important to call and talk to people. See how you feel when you talk to them.

Ps. I grew up in Foster City, graduated from San Mateo High and lived in the Bay Area for 30+ years.

I'll call them and research. Got a recommendation to BR Racing as well.

You didn't play water polo or swim did you? We could have competed against each other.

Where in FC? I know that town every which way. Lived there from 1973 until 1989 when I moved to Berkeley for college.

Sorry for the off topic, but part of what I love about Pelican is getting to know each other. I sponsor the PRC and try to come out every year for the Porsches at the Point (Sears Point) race.
