so....the options I have for the 944 NA are:
turbo 4age 4agze toyota 3S-GTE SR20DET What do you think about the rx7 engine? or the skyline engine?? would it work?? Wich engine itīs mostly similar to the porscheīs?? so the adapting work wont be so hard......

none of theses engines are similar to the porsche block other than they have 4 cylinders.
out of this list I would recommend the 3sgte. the 4agze is a nice engine. I've worked with them before, supercharger makes for some nice torque but the corrola is much lighter than a 944.

How about the VR6? I have thought of investigating what parts would have to be fabricated in order to make it work. Maybe a kit like Renegade Hybrids has for GM V8 and V6 conversions. At least the VR6 would keep it "in the family" (so to speak)

The Mazda RX7 engine worked very well. The rotary engine was almost bulletproof. It was heavier than the 912 engine and somewhat changed the weight ratio. The only problem was that it ran hot. The mechanic (Carl Monroe or Monroe's Machine Shop in Azusa) who did the work was awesome. Unfortunately, he died in a boating accident about 6 years ago. To solve the cooling problem, he was going to have to cut holes and run hoses to the front of the car for a radiator. At that point, I changed my mind because I did not want any permanent modifications. He ended up putting a 1835 VW engine with dual 40 IDF Webers in the car. It was alot of fun!

I have heard the biggest bang for the buck, is the madza rotary conversion from the vw aircooled powerplant. The rotary engines can be had very cheaply, and can produce as much as 700 hp in the 3 rotor design. standard 12a thru 13b motors put out as much as 185 HP in non turbo designs. With the adapter plate, they bolt right up to the porsche 914, or VW transmissions. And are extremeley fast! I already have my motor, I'm just looking for the transmission, and I heard there are special plates that have to be welded in to mount the 914 tranny to.
And the neat thing is it all fits in the same space, but is liquid cooled. And routing the tubing really isn't that hard. |

anyone get their subaru / 912 convertions finished ? I have a 911 with a blown 2.7 and am considering a engine swap.
But I would not want to put the radiator in front, would like it in back and add an oil cooler. Any ideas ?

muuaahh haha haa haa!
this thread shall rise from the dead! ..um..ok sorry.. just saw this old thread..and hey..we can all learn from it coming back right!? hey ATLporsche...nice work on the subie.. im building up a 912e actually..it was a shell so im going all out on it...993 everything..i have a ron davis radiator up front..and (you purists are gonna have a heart attack) i put a 4G63 mitsu turbo 4 into it...(cheap easy hp) i wanted a water pumper...(for now) and plan on a h20 3.4 or 3.6 from a 996...but needed a motor in it for now just to drive..so i grabed one cheap and threw it in... it all in...wire harness is modified..but ive been side tracked with life and the fact that im TRYING* to do the suspension mods, body mods and brake mods all at the same time...its fun..and looks good so far! just sharing..

Hey that sounds cool, but it would be even cooler it you posted some pics for us. How hard were the wire mods ?
Did you have to use a tranny adapter ? Tell me all about it.

the wire mods were just tedious..but fairly straight forward. just alot of attention to detail..the adaptor came from kennedy...
i know i know! pics..i'll get som up as soon as possible..right now im trying to secure a 993 rear suspension...the dang project snowballed! what was was supposed to start off as a daily driven long term vehicle...has turned into a ground up restoration full blown mod session! dam!

Attended my local Shelby/Mustang DE this past weekend. Saw a 911 with a Ford 5.0L EFI V8 tucked under the tail. Ran well too.
