How to price a hotrod build
Bare with me I am typing on my phone. So I want to sell my hotrod build after 13yrs plus of ownership. But how do you sell a car that has a high mileage chassis? The chassis has over 410k miles on it. Over the last several years I have been rebuilding the car. Replaced all the rubbers on the car and added many clean mods ( so I think) . I guess it's worth want the next man would pay.
Here is the current mods and information on the car. 1986 Porsche 911 RSR inspired widebody clean title* Car weighs 2500 lbs Fresh color change to Fashion grey* Fresh top end rebuild motor a 95 993 3.6 with RS cams freshly broken in on dyno. Wevo shifter B&B headers with 997 GT3 cup muffler front mounted oil cooler with new oil lines complete. Suspension and Brakes: New bilstein shocks front and rear Patrick Motorsport Brembo twin turbo brake kit. turbo tie rods with Rebel Racing bump steer Rebel Racing Motor and tranny mounts Rebel racing spring plate bushings and front A arm bushings. Strut bar. 22/30 torsion bars wheels are BBS Motorsports with magnesium centers. Rear tires are 335 30 r18 Interior: Sparco Milano Seats Momo Prototipo steering wheel with quick release (not in photo) RS carpet kit RS door panels Sunroof NO AIR CONDITIONING ![]() ![]() ![]()

Hard to price hot rods. If the car is completely sorted I wouldn’t worry about mileage on the chassis too much. If you are reasonable with their reserve number you should put it on BAT. I’m guessing it will fetch in the $60-$80 range.

If you use BaT make sure the car is ready.
RSRs do well if they are completed with a high level of detail and finish. I would review the RSR builds that Dave K built here on Pelican (sold for $200,000+) set your expectation accordingly. https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1982-porsche-911sc-4-2/ https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1984-porsche-9111973-rsr-recreation/ https://bringatrailer.com/search/porsche+rsr/ My read on BaT is do your homework and again have the car prepared. Write an Ad with all build details, plenty of documentation, pictures, videos and clarity. 911R has sold quite a few hot rods above market I would use his ads as a how to guide. You might need to invest a couple of bucks but the BaT marketplace rewards with well sold cars...….. Last edited by Macroni; 07-25-2018 at 05:00 AM.. |

Have you been before a ref on the swap? Is it BAR certified?

Killer. I would say you might be able to get more than 80 if you market it correctly. In other words, take some beauty shots in front of a train. ;-) Seriously though, amazing build. I think you'll do well. Sorry you are selling.
"Fresh built motor a 95 993 3.6 with RS cams freshly broken in on dyno. Wevo shifter B&B headers with 997 GT3 cup muffler" YESSSSSS do want.

Sorry guys I just notice something in my post. The motor had a top end rebuild not a whole motor rebuild. I missed that going over my post.

He noticed your car is in California and has a late model engine swap, which means you need BAR certified. In order for the new owner to register it in CA they would need to have been through this process.

I didn't know that. So I hope there is a out of state buyer.

Have you been driving the car as is to get a SMOG check every two years and they just don't know it's had a swap? Did you put all the emissions from the 95 onto the car?
Not trying to be a D**k, but I find it hard to believe you didn't know the swap is not legal without BAR approval. As for the chassis miles that is irrelevant on a Hot Rod build. Engine miles and transmission miles are what I would want to know. The car looks great! You should do well. I agree with the $60-80k

Matt thank you for catching that and 75 911 thank you for clearing that up for me.
I have all the necessary smog parts. I am going to look into it today.

It will make a huge difference to get it certified but is a royal pita. CA, Co, and any other state that follows CA emissions standards will check it when it is registered for the first time after the sale. Without it I favor the &60k number. With it $80k isn’t impossible.

Looks great, supersized rolling stock notwithstanding. Sweat the details to get top dollar. BaT probably the preferred venue for this.

@kinein I have sold a number of cars on BaT. I have been pleased with each sale. BaT is what you make of it. They will script the text but its up to you to go through it with a fine toothed comb and really make it a compelling story. Pictures are huge. Find a good setting take 100 plus really good shots of absolutely everything. Any pictures of the build during process should be included. All of the records you have especially for recent engine work should be posted. Spend some time editing the pictures. Include a cold start, a walk around and a short drive video making sure the sound is clear. Be accessible, answer all the questions from poster promptly and don't get dragged down the rabbit hole by people trying to cause trouble.
I spend quite a bit of time on my auctions there and on the site in general. I would bet you your car would do the upper end of your (50 to 80) range, maybe even more. If you can't sell it I'll stop you out at $40k
