‘75 Carrera on BAT thoughts on value reached

Thoughts? I think it did pretty well considering a lot of you say a ‘75 is worth a lot less than a ‘74

I thought it was fair for both buyer and seller. Midyear Carrera's number in the hundreds, so I think there's nowhere to go but up for cars like this one. It's also a funky 70's color with cool wheels. It was very nicely detailed inside and out and photographed well. Good documentation included with the car. The engine bay and interior just looked really nice considering the age. Someone spent some time cleaning it up.

i see both sides. value is driven by the low production #'s, certainly not performance.

for $75K, there are quite a few cars i'd take over a carrera...

I think it sold right where it should have sold. I don’t put that value personally on the Carrera moniker but the market does. I’m not sure but I think that car used to live here until the owner found a nicer identical car and sold it on a few years back.

What would you say this cars virtually identical twin but as a ducktail ‘74 would be worth?

When I was in college at Ohio state back in 1980 I saw a kid driving the same color car with carrera black script on High street and seeing that it was purchased in Dublin which isn't far from Campus I wonder if junior was taking dads car for a joy ride,

I don't really follow the market on these but seems about right. Period color combo and quite rare even though US Carrera have no real performance upgrades. Sound purchase with little downside.

Very nice presentation. Most folks don’t buy these cars with their heads no matter how much data they have to support their decisions with. I had a good laugh at myself looking back on how I “rationalized” the purchase of my SC. I love the car and have never thought twice about it but, in hindsight, the factors influencing my decision were not all apparent to me at the time.

I doubt it. My friend is both discreet and shrewd. Not only would he never sell a car for cheap, I can't see one of his transactions becoming terribly public.

I couldn't tell you. I've personally never seen a bitter chocolate '74. I think this '75 did as well as it did because of the color. It's not for me, but many will pay a premium for it. I think it would have sold for $10-15k less if it weren't for the color. I'm just throwing out a wag, but maybe a similar '74 could bring close to $100k?

Will, are you talking about the phenomenon that your rapidly advancing age influenced you to desire a non-Turbo (aka - Fred Flintstone) 911 motoring experience that won't make you shart yourself each time you drive?!?!

^^^ Concur on the estimate of what a 74 carrera in excellent condition would sell for^^^

some love the brown, some hate it- I think the middie skittle colors ( Green, orange, yellow, blue, Brown, Peru red) are starting to push the ceiling on these Carreras as will as their limited production. 528 74 Carrera coupes made and 395 75 Carrera Coupes.

The 75 listed also had original sport seats

The person who buys a 74/75 Carrera is not looking at them for performance. 73/74 Carrera - only two cars that received OEM Duck tail, some 74 carrera and all 75s first cars with tea tray, rear quarter windows that open, hand built cars, my.02 - I think they are both good looking impact bumper cars. For many of us- it's the poster we had on the wall or the magazine we saved and read multiple times. Also 74/75 smog exempt in many states. I think all these factors will continue to push the purchase prices north.

This one has been for sale for about 4 years at $85k. It's not looking that overpriced after a couple years of BAT sales.

Seemed market-consistent, though I've always felt the US Carreras were more of a marketing ploy than an engineer-dirven model.

Having said that, if a Peru Red 74 or 75 coupe with tan interior & gold wheels/stripe came on the market, I would probably move money like crazy to grab it.

i agree with both of you on the value of a '74. Just being a jerk here but you've done the opposite of what most do and you've called a whale tail a tea tray. One of my biggest peeves is people calling the later tea trays a whale tail. Especially when its one for sale lol
