I’ve even gone so far, on occasion, as to suggest that people who are bothered by me should just hide my posts. I think I suggested that to Robertmark once. |

The winds are nuts but nothing burning my way. They had an ember started fire jump the lines in the last hour but it’s way north of us. Just waiting and watching really. And watching Petit LeMans. Go Porsche. 2&3 in GTLM after 4 hours. |

M2, how's the fire situation with regard to the M2 family, dogs, cats, and hogs homestead?
|
Ditto Matt, how are y’all?

Morning all. We are holding our ground. They lifted the mandatory evacuation for our property (which I ignored) around noon yesterday. It's back to voluntary as we got a single cold rainy day with “lower” winds. I use quotes because it was 25mph instead of 50+. But it was a chance for them to shore up some fire lines.
It froze again last night. Good for the fires but our second night with no gas or heat. It’s under 60 in the House this morning. I brewed coffee on the back porch last night knowing how cold it would be the morning. Picture is the whole burn, and the red is all new in the last 72 hours. We are just past the lower right corner of the burn. That’s 205k acres with the red being around 75k of them. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1603113913.jpg That property in Costa Rica is looking better and better. Anyone wanna buy my business? Second shot is standing in my road Saturday night as my favorite park burned. That’s 5 mi from us, and still The closest it’s gotten to us yet. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1603114261.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1603114261.jpg |
I think Matt and family have done a runner. In Assie or Kiwi lingo that means running from the cops! Probably evacuation order, but I wouldn't worry too much. He's pretty smart and knows what he's doing in any event.

Matt,
It's not like you don't have your head screwed on properly, so I won't try to discourage your decision or the process. I will urge you to try it before committing, grass being greener and all that. Long ago, a few friends of my father sold their homes and moved everything to another, warmer location, eg Florida. After living there full time for a while, they discovered they really didn't like it full time, or even all that much and began looking into coming back to where they had been. Meanwhile, the RE market and life in general had moved on and they couldn't afford to come back. FYI |
I wish you and your family well Matt.

Thanks for the thoughts guys. Nick, I’m not completely serious. Yes, I have a handshake deal to buy the land. But it doesn’t even have a building on it. Even if it did, I have two small children. They will be raised in America. I’m not hauling them off to Costa Rica.
However we are going to sell our house and move here within the States and if I got a serious and real offer on my business I would sell it today and walk away. It can be purchased with or without the factory as part of the deal. Dead serious about that. |

One of the best things I ever did was sell my businesses. |

My auntie who is selling me the costs rican property also has an acre for sale on Lake Marion, SC. So you're saying I should buy it too? |
June, July and August are brutal...Rest of the year is mild....
Lake Marion is beautiful (and huge)...that area puts you within 45 min to Charleston (and beaches), 3.5 hrs to Jax, 3 hrs to Charlotte and Blue Ridge parkway....great area. |
Here is a drone shot I took at Edisto Beach few weeks ago...
