Reality is I wouldn’t want to deal with the humidity in the heat. Costa Rica works because we would be snow birds and dine there in their dry season. I need my primary residence farther north.

In case my comment was too subtle, they turned our gas back on this morning. We hope this means the fire doesn’t come this way again but you never know. It was a pretty bad wind day with the slurry jets grounded abs some ground crews getting pulled in the front of running burns.

My best friend growing up is planning a move there due to his daughter and son in law have relocated there from CO via work. The very young grandchildren play into this. Dan (not Danny) said in April that one can buy a NICE house for 450K. His paid for house in Vegas is worth double that. I haven't talked to him since, but expect him to be there. He's gonna love the humidity I'm sure... HA!

Matt, my 69 Z28 came from So Carolina. I have the original protecto plate (guarantee) with Original owner's address on it. If I send you that address, if it is near home, would you mind contacting those folks? It may be children or such, but they may have something to say about history on the car. As I understand they used to race it. Completely different drive train, but when they finished racing, they put back in all the original components. It shows. What I'm really after, maybe they have the original window sticker in a (grandpa's) shoe box somewhere? Needle in a hay stack thing but worth a try?

Lake Marion is beautiful (and huge)...that area puts you within 45 min to Charleston (and beaches), 3.5 hrs to Jax, 3 hrs to Charlotte and Blue Ridge parkway....great area.

That sounds like paradise compared to here - we are into the 8th consecutive month of burn-ass (started about the 3rd week of March), with less that one week of not-burn-ass days mixed in (mostly in this month), and still super hot here (has been right around 90 the past two days, with lows of 70, with more of the same to come).

I saw that too yesterday pop up news. Better for me is Monkey bus. solution. The villagers use firecrackers, and their monkey patrol which is a rotating job annually in the village. There are chips embedded in a few monkeys, so by transmitter they know when they are passing or nearby. It's always too late though. Monkeys were in the village last weekend. This year I put up my electric wires so no deer or monkeys got in my patch. Mind you, I didn't hook it up to electric current. The animals are smart enough to see the wire, dumb enough that I don't need to waste electricity.

Professionals in India in the city bring in dung and plant it here and there. The dung is from a predator monkey of the monkeys that plague the city (Mumbai?) stealing grocery bags out of residents hands as they come home from shopping, loiter in their yards, even enter their houses. The smell of the poop causes these monkeys to flee! I want some poop from India, or recorded sounds these predators make.

G50

I like the ads that refer to "the highly sought after G50 transmission". Could you get another gearbox on a 1988 911 Carrera?

911heaven 11-14-2020 04:56 AM

I want to punch someone every time I read G-50 too! Sucker punch, rabbit punch, jab, under cut, even a left or right hook! I would even do an elbow, fake on a hook straight to the chops. Get on with yo G thang exercises pmax! Yo fat bum is makin me tiead.

Never really noticed it until this thread, which contains a bit of everything, mentioned the g50. I would say 90% of BAT auctions have it stated in the main heading. I commented on one of them asking if that was BAT's doing or the sellers. The seller responded stating it was to help uneducated buyers who don't really understand Porsches to know what tranny they're getting. Then shouldn't other ads state 901, or 915?? Someone at one time selling I believe an 88 carrera on Pelican had the heading read, "1988 g50 for sale. I thought maybe it was just the tranny, it was the whole car. Just as bad as g-50 is, "Porsche 930 turbo for sale" is just as bad. IMO

The point is that most people searching aren't aware of the actual period the G-50 was fitted to the G-body cars. It is such a small period of the pre 964 cars run with only 2 years for the Carrera and 1 year for the turbo. There are many that love the old clunky 915 and others that prefer the G-50 so it does make it easier for them. I honestly don't see the issue with it. Selling a car is all in the details and the more IMO the better.

And that's the truth.

Not everyone's aware of that.

"clunky old 915" ? ...... maybe when it's worn out.
the "overweight pig" :) G50 comes in handy - if you have to lend it to your teen-ager, or grandmother.

RarlyL8 11-17-2020 09:44 AM

First half of the Carrera model run had the 915, last half had the G50. Makes perfect sense to list the tranny type as it dates the model years and is an important item sought after by some. If you want to add power (like a turbo or supercharge) a G50 is a major plus.

I figured that would add some spice to this pointless thread. ;)
