thoughts on 914-6 value

so, this car came and went quickly yesterday.

i'm in the midst of re upping my agreed value on my insurance, so i've been thinking about the value of my 914-6. mine is a converted -4, and i believe the linked car to be as well.

there are virtually no comps for my car, so i followed this one with interest as it's probably the closest thing to mine i've seen come up for sale. the 914 market has come up in recent years, so i've been curious where to value mine.

the primary differences between my car and this one are that mine has a '95 3.6, a 911 gearbox, and the flares are steel. suspension, brakes, and structural mods to the tub are comparable. my car is caged and has FG trunk, hood (not currently on car), and door skins. mine also has a GT style front with front oil cooler with correct shroud and fans.

the linked car sold very quickly, which leads me to believe he had it priced too low. what're the collective thoughts on the value of the linked car and mine?...

I agree the Bobby Smith 914-6 seemed to be priced low.

What do you think the market for your car is? I am sure you have some strong feeling.....

i have it insured for $50K. i have been of the mind that if i were to market the car i would get somewhere between $40-50K. i think the linked car could have fetched closer to $50K with some marketing and patience...

I thought it was marginally low but nothing that would start a line up.

As for finding value on clones. I've seen numerous listed on various forums. Yours looks great
and would be a the top end of the scale.

$50,000 seems low to me for your car but I do not know the market for converted 914-6.

What would it cost to build it? If you are not selling it the insurance should be set for replacement. In this case I assume build is greater than market. Personally, The few extra bucks of premium would be worth the peace of mind.

that's kind of where my mind is. this car cannot be built for anywhere near $50k. while this isn't my forever car, i have no intention of selling it in the foreseeable future, it's too damn fun.

i set my insurance value almost 3 years ago when i bought the car, and i've done a significant amount of work to it since then. that's why i'm considering raising the value on my policy to reflect that.

i also like to keep an eye on market values for my cars. they are not "investments" to me. but i am a pragmatist and i want to reasonably invested in the cars relative to their market value...

3.6, steel flares, and a more factory-hotrod / sports-purpose look all add up to your car being more valuable than the one which just sold. Yours is much more marketable in my opinion. I bet it'd go quickly around $60k.

I'd insure for what it'd cost to build. I bet the sum of it's parts alone is scratching 40k.. labor would be a bunch, especially with all the chassis reinforcement.

I agree that $50 is 10-20% too low.

I’ve got a thread about conversions in the 914 forum. It was here but some quick fingered moderator moved it.

ask was $39,914, and it went quick. i feel he could have easily gotten closer to $50K...

Think the ask was $39k or so. Dwelle's car is in a different league if we are comparing it with that blue or silver car with the weird stripes and modern cloth racing seats.

^ Agree with those who say agreed value is the way to go, which reminds me I need to review my coverage.

One example of a six conversion that sticks out to me is this car—it has a very tame engine, but it was presented well and seemed to check the visual boxes for a lot of people…more so than most modified 914s that come to market.

There have been others that went for less, both on BaT and elsewhere.

As to agreed value, the poles would appear to be a realistic price when selling and a realistic price to build another one, if either are desirable scenarios. If mine were gone tomorrow, the replacement might not be a 914, so the price of something that would replace it seems like another marker to consider—and in my case lower than the cost to build another one. Just my .02...

$39K for that seems a lot when you can get a nice SC.

no, it was a GT tribute with a. 3.2, 915, etc, pretty extensive build and a nice car.

it went in a matter of hours for $40K. as such, it was under priced...

Can't remember details but remember seeing it on PP and PCA for a second since the pricing caught my eye.

Gaswerks in Paramus had a gorgeous and accurate, 914 GT tribute listed recently for $150K. It sold, but I don't know for how much. I'm betting it was a multiple of $39K though.
