Not that Grady Clay was always correct in everything but his thoughts below from this thread, http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-technical-forum/355853-mfi-altitude.html

“When correctly adjusted, MFI works great at altitude. Better than carburetors or CIS.

If CIS is adjusted correctly at altitude, it absolutely needs to be re-adjusted before any performance use at sea-level. The altitude correction is not as good as MFI.”

I didn’t mind CIS cars too much when I ran it but I kept them near stock. Last time I had the wide band hooked up I noticed the MFI compensated quite well on the daily commute from 6200 to 8500 feet. Unlike later DME cars where it is just a one time switch (at around 3000ft IIRC) the MFI aneroid is a sensitive linear device, adjusting mixture progressively.

I'll write a poem for you Sean right now, albeit mixed with a little red Spanish Rioja. Goes like this -

AMG and me are free to be. I don bother him, he don bother me. If he tries to give me some, he won't have the chance to come. (I'll) Make sure of that at the drop of a hat. My bung is as tight as a snapper's ass, therein nothing can pass. Though you are a troll with a skinny wick, you love to take a solid dick. Blame it on yours and not our cars, for you are the troll behind the bars. Given a chance you may well see, this isn't the way it has to be.

Bernz, just to add a little to what IckyFicke and RawhideRey said about CIS (aka - Bosch K-Jetronic); pNutz is fond of the system because it is an old school (like his old ass!!!) injection system that performed well enough that it was on many European cars for decades (Porsche, Saab, Lamborghini, just to name a few, and hell, it was even on the snail slow Delorean with the Vulvo lawnmower engine). Also, that bisch pNutz has really studied the system over the past several years and is quite knowledgeable with regard to how it works, what the components are and do, and how to troubleshoot problems with it. Plus, Nutz is just weird like that!!!

CIS sux for several reasons, however. For one, it is entirely user untuneable in stock trim (except for idle AFR/CO level) - the only way for an owner to optimise the system is to have components re-engineered to be made adjustable. There are people that do this, but it is not cheap, and then learning to tune the system requires an onboard AFR meter and a lot of work and patience. Another suck is that even the slightest air leak anywhere in the intake tract (talking even a tiny, pNutz's d**k sized leak ) means the engine will run like an old dog with chronic explosive, and dribbling, diarrhea, and then locating said leaks (often many all throughout the system) is a real chore. Related to that suck, the non-Turbo 911 variants utilize a complex airbox that is made of fookin plastic which splits wide open (aka - rendered useless) if there is an intake backfire (not uncommon during cold startup on the non-Turbo systems).

All of the aircooled Turbos ran CIS (except for the 993TT), so I am very familiar with the pain in the assery of it, and have gone to a lot of effort and $$$ to be able to properly tune the system (does not supply enough fuel during boost to support a better turbocharger than the weezy piece of shiit that the cars came with, runs borderline too lean at idle, and dumps too much fuel at boost onset). I've also become pretty good at troubleshooting it, unfortunately! I don't have actual hate for the system, but I have no love for it either, and definitely like poking fun at how long Porsche continued to use it on the Turbos.

And then you have Toby, who ditched his CIS for and even ruder and cruder fuel system - Caveman Carbs!

Thanks Raw for that! A great tech surround and with optimum experience. I just got air cooled 101 educated and even got the gist on Toby's carb set reasoning vs the pmax passion for these. I'm learning. It helps a lot too since my acquired engine has the K-tronic old system. Still time on the shelf, yet I am brainstorming what to do. Still time on the shelf, yet time to plan. Engine still in Europe.

Poor feller, this has been here and Craigslist and who knows where else for months. Started out somewhere near $40K. I want to say $38-9?

Down to...$28K.

What cooling market you ask?

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-cars-sale/1041985-85-911-coupe.html

The funny thing is this guy probably got all sorts of "low ball" offers along the way. But he wasn't just going to give it away, amirite?

I sent the guy a pm he never even bothered to get back to me. It's a SALVAGE title so he wasn't realistic at the start. A lot closer now.

Dreamers gonna dream. A 200k mi car is a hard sell even when the market was frothy. But keep trying. Some day you might find a decent example.

That Forest Green has a salvage title...so that may explain the asking price

No problem, Burnz!

Are you sure that your engine has K-Jetronic, as I thought that Ruf Turbos were built with modified Motronic (early EFI system used on many Porsche models)? I'm no Ruf expert, however, so I could be wrong about that.

Only RUF BTR3 had Motronic. Early BTR's were CIS
