Porsche Sonderwunschprogramm car #1

Interesting car up on the samba.
I didn’t even know it existed.

https://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=2222467

“1978 930 Turbo one-off prototype with WLS Price: 139000 Euros
A real milestone in Porsche History: The initial car of the Porsche Exclusive Program – formerly known as „Porsche Sonderwunschprogramm“ is now looking for a collector.
In the mid-seventies Porsche made almost everything possible for solvent customers – far away from the normal option catalogue. With this unique 930 the factory collaborated with its component supplier (S&C Schäfer Autoausstattung GmbH) and built the first complete car which was used to show all the possibilities for technical and optical individualization of a 911/930. This car was the prototype for experimentation and also the base for the official delivery program. The car has also the works performance package (345 hp), the body kit with the fender air-intakes, the side covers and the front spoiler. S&C did all the interior options – in the very significant “hummer” color.
Normal standard is that almost everything in the interior of this 3,3 turbo is made in finest leather finish. Even the little switch-potentiometer for the wipers or the tank-opener are leather-covered. But almost never ending is the list of special-features already installed in 1978:
- Remote-controlled power-lock with comfort opening/closing of windows and roof
- KENNWOOD Power-Rack with CD and Cassette-Player with hidden subwoofer-system
- Lightened make-up-mirror in the louver of the glovebox
- In sunvisor integrated microphone for car-telephone
- Switches for one-touch window up and down
- Separate Sony-headphone-set for the copilot if the driver wants to hear “turbo-songs”
- Special lightened cassette-boxes on both sides under the dashboard
- Umbrella-holder on the rear seat
- Decent Porsche-imprints on steeringwheel, door-handle-cover and rocker-panel-moldings
The car is still owned by the founder of the mentioned supplier company and has every piece of history-receipts since new. The odometer shows 108 tkm. The paint is almost completely first paint and in very good condition. The interior is like new. Technically the car is serviced and ready to drive. If there is one unique 930 turbo with a very special part in Porsche History – then it is this one.”
Not sure I could live with that interior though!

Wikipedia says cd was invented in 1979. "The first commercially available audio*CD player, the*Sony CDP-101, was released October 1982 in*Japan.

Might be a stretch for Kenwood to have beat the inventors to it in 1978.

Interesting that was the same supplier that Porsche used when they built the the last 930. Which was completed in 1990. The car belongs to Robert Linton. It has all sorts of special items. At $139k Euros, in my opinion it’s worth every penny.

If the guy had only chosen red leather. That orange is terrible.

I really can’t stand when it looks like they took an air brush to it and make it so monochromatic. Give me some black and silver to offset it. Do a black steering wheel and color the stitching. Same with areas of the dash. It’s not a bad color. It’s just overkill.

I caught that , look at gear shift knob. That looks more like 2000 styling. If original - way ahead of their time with design elements

The knob caught my eye too, because it’s the only color contrast. I think that’s a 993 knob. I’m guessing the original leather knob got pale and tarnished at some point and that’s a replacement. They should have just restored the original knob.

The car may be a good value, but I think it's just butt ugly, inside and out.

I dig the car. Keep in mind, the car is being sold by the person(supplier) who Porsche commissioned to do the work. They were the people behind this special 930 https://rennlist.com/forums/911-turbo-930-forum/728389-newly-published-porsche-turbo-book-10.html

#1 is okay, but the last black car is simply age perfect!
It’s not today’s style, but has been done with enough restraint to make it appear reasonably classy even today.

That steering wheel is a current offering with the embossed PORSCHE lettering. There are some other parts that are modern vs period: shifter knob, handbrake, cd storage, teardrop headlight washers vs. snorkel... That looks like a modified Motorola Brick between the seats. Those extra glove boxes are nice to have.

Interesting car. The interior is not my taste and is almost as over the top as Bob's one off America GS interior. Although his last 930 has far more options than this and is priceless. Bob said the turbo will be returned to the factory one day so this might be the next best thing.
