Consignment AZ or L.A.?

I have had 2 cars on consignment a long time ago, one in Beverly Hills and one in Reseda. Both of those I had to take a lower price than I initially wanted because the consignor had the car in their showroom long enough. Not too big a deal in those days as I lived nearby. Now I live a few states away from SoCal and I envision shipping my car for $1700, and then it sits at the well know consignment/restoration shop because no body is willing to pay my price and I am told in order to move the car, I should accept the low price or I will have to ship the car back to home for another $1700. Perhaps I am being too pessimistic.
I had not thought of consigning my car if it were not for a phone call from the owner of this well known shop. I have told the owner of the showroom, my price and he thought it was not unreasonable and has sold a number of these rare Porsches in the past. I can't help but sense he just wants to get my car in there so he can make his cut, knowing I probably won't get my asking price. He will know I am sort of stuck because I will have to go through the expense to have it shipped back home and therefore will relent and accept the low ball price.
I am probably overly thinking this but its not like I live nearby and I could simply drive the car home in an hour or so.
I am about to restore the interior back to original during the winter months and hope to have it done sometime before leaving for AZ for the winter, so I have plenty of time to think about doing this.
If I was going to do L.A. I was considering Autokennel but someone suggested that doing AZ. might be the better market.
What do think of my feelings on this?

Cut the deal that so he pays the shipping if it doesn't sell at your agreed upon price. That'll get him thinking.

Unless you live out in the boonies, I don’t know why you’d spend this kind of money shipping it out of state just to get it to a dealer. There is nothing special about a dealer no matter what they tell you (no offense AutoKennel). That sounds totally asinine to me. The only time you pay that kind of money to ship out of state to sell your car is when you’re sending it to a reputable auction house with a reasonable reserve or no reserve, so as not to get stuck with storage expenses and round trip shipping costs. At least try BaT first before considering this, as the commissions are paid by the buyer, it won’t cost you more than the $99 listing fee. If it doesn’t sell then reconsider your options.

I am in a kind of the boonies. No one or few people are much of a Porsche enthusiast here. This is truck country and the very few P cars, are late models. The only consign. place is in Seattle and he is not interested. The car needs to be in an area where there are plenty of car people of means and It helps that the vehicle is within a reasonable distance that they can just jump in their car and take a look. BAT people are not familar with this low production model and I like the idea there is a person you can talk to while touching and examining the vehicle.
Foot traffic.

That’s why we have the internet, it solves those problems. The dealership will end up selling it using the internet to advertise it, so why don’t you give it a shot first.

Right now there is no foot traffic. Put it on the internet. If it hasn't sold by the time the pandemic is over, reevaluate. Buyers of specialist cars aren't going to be held back by not seeing it in person straightaway, and you'll get a lot more eyeballs on it on the internet than in someone's showroom.

I think you might find BaT people are way more informed then you give them credit for. If it's that special a car (and I'm not familiar with 76 RS') then BaT is exactly the place for it.

Having said that, I'm not sure I have the stomach for BaT myself.

That's why there's Bring A Trailer. Costs you $99.00 dollars and if the car doesn't sell it stays in your garage.

so in reading M2's link it seems you've taken liberties in adding the "RS" to a carrera and that's what confused me. kinda like ol mr. walker does in his sign off.

cheeRS!

Hey, I didn't think about it like that, I like that. So, here's the scoop:

Porsche built 123 2.7 "RS Spec" Carreras in 1976.
They have a special VIN number series from 9116609001 to 9116609123 (mine is 9116609119). The "9" in the fourth-to-last position was used to denote the 3.0 RS and RSR models in 1974 and 1975, but in 1976 it was used for these 123 coupes.
In mid '70s, the touring racing in Europe (group 3), specified in its rules that the car must have the induction system of the series model sold that year. In '76 the Carrera 3.0 was introduced with the K jetronic. The K jetronic induction system is somewhat limited in ways of tuning so the racers all started complaining that the 3 last years' efforts were lost, and the factory relented and produced these 123 cars with MFI, to satisfy the racers for one additional year.

I’d do autokennel in a heartbeat. Can’t believe shipping rates are so high. Just sold a Macan, getting transported across country for $1200. I’ve bought from autokennel and it was a pleasure. I wouldn’t hesitate to sell a car thru them.
