Maybe I'm too much of a purist, but when I see mods like these, I wonder what other weird stuff was done.

I think the mods would be very easy to undo. It's the state of the engine and gearbox I'd be most interested in. Plus how is the body in regard to any crash repairs it may have had.

The shop that did the body work got back to me yesterday. I sent them the invoice and pictures of the car and they actually remembered it and know the previous owner. They said the body work could be removed easily.

PPI will tell the story on the engine and hopefully gearbox.

This is how you get a good deal. Most people will skip right by this car based on it's looks and the work to be done before and after the sale. May or may not be worth it.

What are people's thoughts on value? I'm thinking $58-60K

This summarizes the savvy buyer's stance towards paying a premium for an unmolested car. It's not what you see, it's what you can't see. Someone with poor aesthetic judgement will also exhibit poor judgement regarding maintenance and care.

You can't say that someone with different cosmetic taste than someone else won't maintain a car... I've seen the records for this car. It has been well maintained.

In 2001, someone with a lot of money dumped a fair amount into this car because they wanted it to be faster and look a certain way. No expense was spared there or with the maintenance.

Well that seems like good news on the body work. I'd start closer to $55k and work up from there - if I was forced to. Probably wouldn't pay more than 60k.

Lipstick

See now I think the Lipstick interior is awesome.....

The engine with 160K would be my concern

I don't mind looking at the interior, just not owning it. I think it is a cool combo too.

The car I'm looking at has 82k miles. My Carrera has 172K miles, doesn't leak a drop and runs like a top. Drive it all the time...obviously

Mileage on a well maintained car doesn't scare me. I've had very good experiences with cars that have been driven.

High mileage Turbo?

Beautiful Carrera Undecided!

All due respect, Turbo is a different animal.

Agreed that cars that are driven and well maintained, particularly air cooled, benefit from use.

Don't know much about Turbo Carrera's, but in the aircraft world the engines rarely reach their projected overhaul periods. Too much heating, cooling and added pressures. Not the same, I know, but many similarities.

I would be very wary of a 930 with 100k on the clock and no rebuild, much less 160K? Maybe someone with far greater knowledge on these will chime in.......

Sorry undecided, I thought I saw 160K on the clock. Speaking of the lipstick car.

82K is more manageable

Thank you for the complement on the Carrera! It's a beauty.

Yes, we've all become a little distracted. The lipstick car is 160. This thread is about the euro turbo in the start of the thread. It has 82K miles, but has many mods.

I just drove my friend's turbo from Charleston to Maine. He has 150K miles w/out a rebuild and drives it almost daily. The RarlyL8 exhaust and power sold me on a turbo.

I like the wheels and the mirrors are fine - so I think the extra body panels are the really the main issue cosmetically - but of course everyone has different tastes.

It's a GP White 930... with reversible cosmetic mods. If it checks out otherwise, then why not?

Like I said, IT'S A GP WHITE 930!!!!!

Is the 930 motor really that much of a pile of crap that it can't even make it to 100k without a rebuild? German engineering? Even a Pinto could make it to 100k without a rebuild.

Exactly like that, if you’re Stevie Wonder.
