If you don't need to sell it then don't sell it.
Also nothing wrong with going back with a fair market value for it after research - surely if he really wanted it and is a good guy as you say he'd have no qualms with paying fair value. If you do sell it, don't be surprised to see it reposted for sale for 50k in a week's time. |

Put your Big Boy Pants on.
Then check my signature. I have a 78SC that is EASILY worth double and maybe more than triple your offer. I'm not joking. Tell the guy you've checked the market and discovered the price is just way too low. And it is. If you have any reservations about that fact, go on the internet and try to find an SC coupe below $40K. That price is ridiculous. Morals and doing the right thing are all well and good, but you're giving the car away and leaving thousands, if not tens of thousands, on the table. If you're good with that, honor the deal. Sorry for being direct, but that price is wrong. GLWS

at that price, the buyer is simply going to take the cheese you left on the table. i agree with whoever said that at $30K, that car will be flipped 3 times before is settles in with a "real" owner...

we bought our 83 Targa back in 1995, and had a buyer on his way to pick up the car after our first son was born in 1998 and something more practical as a daily driver seemed the right thing to do. both the wife and I were just about in tears as the buyer pulled into the driveway, so I went out, apologized and then politely explained to him that there was simply no way we were selling our car. not a single day has gone by since where I have regretted the decision, and in fact the car is still sitting in our garage at this very moment.
still, if you are committed to the sale, the other guys are right - 30k is a lowball unless your car has some kind of really weird history (title problems, for example). otherwise, 35-40k seems to be just about the going rate for driver SCs, but those are run-of-the-mill cars and your color and interior combo will almost for sure fetch even more. even on CL your car would have to be worth 40k easy.

For the love of god.
DON'T DO IT. You would be giving it away for 30k. It's not going against your word if you agree to a lowball offer then realize the market is not what you thought. Plus my local craigslist is littered with WTB ads for air-cooled Porsches, most are flippers, hoping to prey upon someone that doesn't know what they have. You don't owe this guy anything. I know the car isn't perfect but I wouldn't be surprised if it brought 50-60k on BAT. |

If the buyer of this car was a close friend or family member...maybe. But this is a flipper who is getting a car for at least $20k under value. That is not ethical. A good deal is one thing, stealing is another. And this is a “steal” at 30k! Don’t do it!!!

I agree with the other, just politely back out of the deal and tell him you’ve changed your mind about selling the car as you realize you can’t find a replacement for anywhere near this price.
If you do follow through include verbiage in the bill of sale that states you have first right of refusal to purchase the car back at the sell price plus any major expenses towards mechanicals and or $30k under market value if its down the road. I’m not sure how enforceable this would be but if he’s truly a nice guy he’ll give you first shot. I’ve had several cars offered back to me, sadly in one instance where I really wanted it back I couldn’t afford it. Good luck…..and keep it.

Don’t let that car go for less than 45k to a good friend or family member, that you trust. Anyone else 50k, at least then they’ll have to do a little work to flip it and make money.
That is the SC everyone is looking for.

If you sell it to him for $30k you’ll see what it’s actually worth in 3 months when it ends up on BaT. Perfect color combo + slick top = all the money
Here’s what a $30k SC looks like for reference. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-cars-sale/1100767-fs-1980-911sc-coupe.html

Simply tell the guy you've had a change of heart and you love the car too much to sell it right now. That's your prerogative. At 30K you're giving it away, especially that car.
Don't get too caught up in his feelings on losing out on the car of his dreams, it happens everyday.

I'm thinking of keeping it at this time. I do drive it often as the weather allows. Yea I can cash in now and have a fist full of dollars but than what? I did let my other vehicle go last year and still miss it (1985 Grumman Kubvan ) Both split time as my daily drivers.
So I will approach it as not available for sale at this time, sorry for the length of time this had been on the table but I just simply still want the car to enjoy myself. To be clear the guy interested in the car is not a flipper, he is a local Luthier and just remodeled his shop for a bay to house the car in. Great man and have many conversations and visits between us. If I wanted someone to pass this car to it would be him. So the trepidation of dropping the news is here. I appreciate all the guidance from our group here and I'll let you all know how it goes. Sawyer |

No downside that I see. Maybe you made a friend. Maybe he buys it for $50k in a year or two.

Even if he's not a flipper, I'm sure this guy is well aware of the car's true market value and has no qualms taking advantage of Sawyer, so no remorse should be had about his feelings either..
Glad you're keeping it. |

you got a low offer and its not a contract. I get offers all the time for my CRX (some actually pretty strong) but it's NFS. Your car would probably bring at least 50-60 on BAT due to the color.
