What's my 1986 928 worth?

I want to sell this 1986 Porsche 928 project. It needs a full restoration. The car is complete. All original with the exception of the added turbo. The Porsche does not run, but has in the past. Car has a five speed transmission. I feel the car is a special model with the best color combination. Where should i advertise it? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

That is a parts car at best.

We restored the interior of our 79 928 5spd and a total restore (PO smoked way too much) was three times more than the car is worth today, but the rest of the car was pristine. The mechanical / electrical issues of these cars when sitting is also going to be the price of a good used example… these cars are not cheap to fix and require a knowledgeable mechanic.

I purchased a '79 928 5 speed locally 3 years ago for $800. The interior looked like your car, total restoration required. Some parts are impossible to source ( dash, dash pod, door panels..etc) my advice is to part it out. You could try listing it locally for $ 2500 or so. give it a try.

My first thought contained the phrase "ten foot pole".

Reality is the cost of repairs exceeds the market value of this vehicle.

Wow, there's a serious Black Hole..a potential buyer/restorer would have to be into Self Injurious Behavior.... no way to generate anything but a huge loss...... parts car, and good luck to being able to find a taker. Jump at anything close to $1.5 K

Thanks for taking the time to respond to my question. I have restored many VW's and Porsche 914's in my time, but I know the 928's are a whole other animal. Hopefully this one can be saved. If anyone is interested feel free to contact me.

Thanks,

send some photos of another 928 to Hagarty, insure it as a classic at an agreed value policy, wait three or four months, pour 3 gallons of gas, and one gallon of diesel on it and light a cigarette "a bit too close"...

the gas/diesel ratio is the key.

don't call the fire department until the tires are really cooking so it's a complete loss.....

Brand of cigarettes matter?...only if your name is Mick Jagger.

Seriously...I was given a 924S awhile back, for free, which approximated (at least in looking at the photos above) that of this 928. Scratched my head on this long and hard and ended up salvaging the engine, brakes, and a few other odds and ends. Ended up scrapping the rest, as it turned out that most of what might have otherwise been salable parts also needed work!

Regarding this 928...I'd think real hard before putting down any cash for it, without at least further assessing my own comfort level with the phrases "does not run - but has in the past," and "all original with the exception of the added turbo."

The thing about a 924s is that you can spec race it. No real option like that for a 928. I’d value the 924s more as a result.

How good a base is a 928 for an off road dune buggy type deal?

Stripped, cut away, roll caged
