Dilemma - Which Project Would You Sell?
Hey everyone,
Many of you have shared wise advice over the years as far as old Porsche's go. We bought our first home last year which needed a full remodel. Some people thought I was way over my head and I would have to sell the projects. Fortunately, no, I bought more projects and we are basically moved in. I know the time & money it takes to get these cars up to at least driver quality and I'm in a situation where I think I would rather sell one of the projects to fund the rest of them instead of having it collect dust. Every project has it's plusses and minuses.. The four cars on the list include: - 77 911S (2.7 yea I know) with an all steel wide body. The car runs and drives (but has been sitting for a year) and has been my project for over 3 years and I've acquired a decent amount of parts for it to be a cool daily driver once it's repainted. The interior is pretty mint but the motor has the common leaks and I believe I need to swap one of the rocker shafts. I have new wheels for it and it will be rocking IROC front and rear bumpers. ![]() - 82 911SC Targa. Brown with some minor dings and dents all over the body. It runs and drives but has an alternator/charging issue which I haven't been able to look into since I've been busy finishing the house. This car is the closest to being able to jump in and GO. The paint is OK, and it runs OK. Also has the common leaks and head studs are unknown till I do an oil change. ![]() - 82 911SC Coupe Slant Conversion. Has sat for over 20 years but has potential. Got it recently and motor turns but I have still yet to drain the tank and add some fresh fuel. Some might say it needs a full restoration but it could be a very decent driver with a tune up/paint job, and reinstalling the interior. It came with all the original parts the PO took off plus a ton more in case new interior leather/carpeting was needed. It has blue (pretty sweet) interior and overall a super unique car which I wish I didn't like because it makes me want to keep it. ![]() - 2001 Honda S2000. Black on black with 70k miles. Picked it up last month with some light front end damage, still hold clean title. These cars are becoming tough to find with lower miles in good shape so I will be spending ~2k to get it back into tip top shape. I love these cars since they are essentially street legal go carts and I don't see myself selling it anytime soon after I fix it. ![]() .....so Which would you sell? Mainly between the Porsche's and why? The slant nose was probably my first option but then again the coupes will always bring more than the targa's.. BUT the targa is all there and doesn't need nearly anything to jump in and drive.. Decisions decisions.. Let me know you thoughts.. will post some pics for reference later. Thanks, Mar

The 77 widebody and the SC slant strike me as slightly redundant. Sell one of those two.

Gotcha.. makes sense. Seems like the slantnose is on the chopping block.

Sheesh. Do you buy anything that doesn’t need restoration? Not only do all of the cars need major work, but the home did as well. You must love projects Itza, that’s a handful. Try to trade all 4 jalopies for 1 working running car, that would be my advice. Your garage is full of headaches.

Not only that, but there are deals to be had for those willing to put in the sweat equity. Mario is young and willing to do the work. I've done this type of thing with homes repeatedly. In fact, I'm doing the biggest one of my life right now that will have the biggest payoff.
A 170 year old beauty on the water. Find of a lifetime. ![]()

The beautiful thing about getting something that needs major work (or updating if we are talking about the house) is the price you end up paying to add value. After the remodel, we'll be all in less than a house down the street just sold for needing all the same or more work. I was able to leverage a good deal when the market took a pause last year. I also have a YT channel where I document some of the builds, so I would argue my garage is full of content ![]()

If it were me I would sell the slant nose and the targa. Get the s2000 done to have something fun to drive and pour the rest into making that '77 really awesome.
Maybe figure out if the slant nose motor is good and pull it for the 77? Sell the roller and the 2.7? But you have plenty of equity and material to make one awesome 911.

I'm behind you all the way Mario. Just don't get too overwhelmed with projects. It's a good sign that you're willing to part with one or more to fund others.
I recently picked up this project. 112 years young, not working with a broken pendulum in the corner of someone's office looking sad. It is now looking great an works perfectly. ![]() ![]()

That's very unique you were able to revive a nice pendulum like that.
