Interesting Trend
I've been around Porsches for far too many years for one lifetime. And I'm noticing an interesting trend: it looks like the G-Series cars are starting to trend more strongly. I remember the big trends with 356's followed by the Longhoods and now it looks like the G-Series cars for real.
Many know I run an online shop specializing in lighting (and a bit more) for air-cooled Porsches: 911's, 930's, 912's and 964's. I've been around - and participated in and with - the big trends with the 356's and the Longhoods and now it looks like it's the G-Series building. It's a generational thing. Also, it's gets tough to find cars to restore. There must be *a lot* of them out their given the 16 year run of the G's. Anyone else think this is the case? Happy New Year, John

I think you are on point with this observation, John. I own an F-Series, 1970 with more than a few modifications. The SCs and Carreras are going to bring more than the other Gs. I had to do extensive rust prevention and remediation on my F series. Not a big issue with the G series.
I need to check into your headlights as my H4s are barely getting the job done. |

affordability due to supply is my thought.

The Boomers are giving way to the Gen Xers. The G-body was the only Porsche I knew from Kindergarten to HS graduation (1976-1988), posters of them decorating my bedroom walls.

Yes, you are certainly not the only one to notice this rise in popularity of the Porsche G-series. It is a generational phenomenon, coupled with the search for authentic and "analog" vehicles, and the increasing scarcity of cars to restore. With the current trend that favors classic cars with character, it is very likely that this demand for the 911 G-series will continue to grow, especially with specialists like you who offer quality parts to restore and maintain these cars.

Supply of the G-Body 911's are dwindling in the US due to natural disaster's and cars being sold overseas.

I'm confused.. as this trend is not new. G-cars have been trending-up since the mid-teens..
Many were backdated to long-hoods, and others resto-modded as widebodies etc.. so supply has dwindled a bit but they kinda-sorta remain as what's available for under $80k if you want air-cooled.

I'm tired of G bodies... I hope the bottom falls out of the 356 market so I can have a shot at something before I'm too old to enjoy it.

Seems to me the 356 market is pretty soft at the moment for any coupe with "needs."

I have certainly taken note but not far enough! I'm betting they lose their appeal as owners start aging out but only time will tell.

I think the ridiculous increase in the prices of 964's and 993's has people looking for a more a affordable but similar experience. Although I recently saw a 94 3.2 cab sell for over $200k. It was a pristine restored example but there are those willing to pay up for a perfection.
The average 356 market by me is dropping hard unless it is a special example which are still in high demand. The restomods are dropping heavily.

What do you think will happen with all the "hot rods" and back date cars? I find myself wondering if people will one day regard a heavily modified G body or a backdate car kinda like a slantnose conversion or a forward dated long hood car.

This.
The first sale was an anomaly. Haven't seen another 100k mile g50 car do close to that.

If you look at the BAT auctions the first sale did not go through. Same seller a few months later.
Who knows if the PCar seller was the original seller or the purchaser from BAT. ![]() Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Seems most I speak with have come to realize BaT is a safe haven for some unscrupulous sellers. I see more private sales these days and many I know won't buy form BaT, Mecum or some of these well known sellers which have proven to not be all that honest. A few very honest sellers do exist but most I wouldn't trust.
I don't seen this 89 turbo being discussed. It all depends on the individual car and sellers reputation. https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1989-porsche-911-turbo-coupe-12/

Don’t know that I would lump a one year only g50-50 930 with the rest of the G body market. It’s always been its own unique pricing.
